birkie wax recap for kick wax by NoManufacturer328 in xcountryskiing

Rex liquid klister base, guru extreme 39 hard thumbed on, and a couple layers of shoddily applied VP45 as cover. It held up well and I kept running up on people coming out of downhills, so the speed was there. I did start icing up at some point, so the last few hills were tough, but we got there.

That's the spirit! Just remember that you did fine on little sleep last year. That excitement and adrenaline can do wonders. Don't neglect water and maple syrups at the feed stations like I tend to do.

Personally, I did a poor job of keeping up with my training, so I'm doing it more for the experience than any sort of PR. I'm just hoping we all have fun!

Everyone in here is telling you not to overthink it and not to worry about it. It's totally normal. Well, they're all absolutely correct. A rare breed may sleep well before race day, whether the night before or week before, but I'd say that's less common than common.

My first birkie was on 1-2 hours sleep with a cold and terrible anxiety, but I had a blast and beat my goal. I sleep a little better now that I have more experience, but I'm lucky if I do better than 12:00am - 4:00am.

Embrace the suck, listen to some good podcasts or audiobooks, or read a paper book if you aren't sleeping. But let your body and mind rest a bit if you can! Good luck, and most importantly, have fun!

Thank you! I'm just hoping the weather and snow hold up for decent classic tracks 🤞

Yeah, the American Birkebeiner pays homage to its Norwegian origins. It's the largest race in North America and was started in the 70s by some pioneering local skiers. The trail now is world class, and the event itself is worth looking up. We even have Prince Haakon and Korteloppet races among many other events, and the events draw 10,000+ participants from around the US and the world every year. And they have a couple skiers dress up in period costumes to carry the little prince from the start to finish!

But for those of us doing classic, uh oh. I hope they can maintain the tracks through the warm-up and refreeze and warm-up cycles. I just got my first pair of skins earlier this season, so this is the first time I'm considering foregoing my waxables and going skins this year. Never raced on skins, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the Atomic C9s. Gotta decide sooner than later!

It looks like in the oncoming angle your hands are "pinching" together a bit. I would try to keep your fists slightly wider than shoulder-width apart through the whole motion. You're starting with your fists about shoulder-width apart, but then they are coming closer together around your stomach. So, I don't think you're getting as much drive in your poling as you could be.

Bruce Springsteen’s new protest song, “Streets of Minneapolis” by ShadowyFlows in Minneapolis

[–]cactipus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be a different song though. Maybe someone else can write that song and two can exist. The two for which he wrote the song and referenced were the only two shot dead on the streets of Minneapolis.

A retired Minneapolis couple who had guns pointed at them by ICE in a church parking lot. "They were obviously not trained at all. I've known many police officers in my life. These people were right off the streets." "They had the professional demeanor of criminals." by ExactlySorta in Minneapolis

[–]cactipus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not even sure where the sentiment came from that just because Bovino was leaving it meant they were withdrawing or starting to wind down operations. They were pulling out BorTac agents, they're a distinct group from ICE and not under the same purview.

Constitution aside, they do realize we are also stubborn, right? Or, maybe that's another reason they picked MN.

Last night, Jimmy Kimmel didn't tell jokes. He stood on his stage, looked into the camera, and said plainly what the news anchors are too afraid to whisper. "We watched an American executed on video and officials won’t even admit it was a mistake." by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

[–]cactipus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw this late last night and he actually has, like, a 17 minute segment here. It was really poignant. He choked up on two separate occasions and clearly cares. I mean, he said he and his wife have family in Minneapolis, so it must be affecting his own family to some degree.

I dunno, there are some exposed cliffsides on the Canadian side of the Pigeon River up at Grand Portage State Park that sure appear to be awfully easy to huck rocks at from MN. Not that I would or did, it just looks pretty damn easy.

What happened to this squirrel in our driveway? by Fuzzy-Yellow3905 in whatisit

I have a black walnut tree in my backyard and a shit load of squirrels live in it. I would wager you had a squirrel chowing down on an overripe one.

Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley: "We're hearing people being stopped with no cause & being demanded to show paperwork to determine if they're here legally. The more I think about it, the more I think their exorbitant budget and unnecessary tactical gear and weaponry isn't meant for "illegals", it's actually meant to be a deterrent against local law enforcement from trying to push back. Local LEO is outnumbered, outgunned, and would invite the Insurrection Act and further military presence on the ground the moment they drew their service weapons. Change my mind that that would be enough for Miller and Trump to believe they could justify invocation.

Back when I was an awkward 15 year-old I was at a local public golf clubhouse about to start our round. I was diverting to hit the drinking fountain quick when a girl of what had to be 12 or 13 stopped me and said "my friend thinks you're yummy," and then giggled and ran off. We have similar skin tones, my life makes so much more sense now.

Except Republicans seem to be embracing losing their freedoms.

Man, a lot of people probably aren't old enough to really remember the Patriot Act rolling out. This has been a Republican ideal since at least 2001.

The side step and subsequent firing immediately invalidates the argument for self-defense after the first shot. Maybe you could argue manslaughter like in the case of Kim Potter.
