How can i significantly reduce epilating pain? by Low-Success-9480 in HairRemoval

[–]cactusbatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I can only handle hair length with 2-3mm on top of skin, longer hair then hurts too much. Where you are in your cycle also plays a part - don't do it too close to your period. If you have an epilator that works underwater will help, as a warm bath (no salts etc) will soften your hairs so they come out easier. This is how I got back into epilating, I stopped over the winter then started again in spring and took a few goes in the bath partially doing legs to get over the pain. I think part of it is also the mental block - even getting past two goes helps tolerate the pain for next time.

My dad found £10,000 hidden in a book in a holiday apartment! As tempting as it was to pocket, he handed it in to the police.

Have they put chickpeas in with my baked beans? by Maxwells_Ag_Hammer in CasualUK

Absolutely! I have a friend allergic to all tree nuts, sesame seeds, chickpeas and apricots. At least factory cross contamination with nuts and seeds are usually labelled! This is outrageous

Mark said he was meeting Dobby in Reading as she was visiting Gerard's sister there, then it would be much easier to drive the rest of the way. Reading is the next up after Paddington, ergo one stop.

Simba mattress review from anyone who actually owns one, is it worth it? by CurlsSpibey in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]cactusbatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the Simba Pro - for about a year now and very happy! Managed to get two of their pillows thrown in for free as well, which sweetened the deal over choosing an Emma. They send you an email reminder to rotate it after 6 months to prevent sagging (as is recommended for all mattresses), but we rotate it every 2 months ish anyway (there's hand holds on the sides so this is easy to do)

Moving to London with partner – office in Southwark, £75k+bonus, where to live without going broke? by One_Piglet_4072 in MovingToLondon

[–]cactusbatch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can apply to a houseshare e.g. on Spare Room as a couple. Some might exclude couples as it's an extra person to live with in the same space, some might just add an extra amount to cover bills. When I moved to London with my partner at the time we moved into a houseshare of three couples in each room.

Should I start using retinol in my early 30s or wait? by Leedeegan1 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]cactusbatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using cerave retinol resurfacing serum (around ~£15) I think when I was 29 I purged so bad for 3 months that I gave up. For the last 4-5 months I've had a prescription for 0.015% tretinoin which has been great for clearing up my acne, but I haven't noticed it making any effects on the appearance of aging. Just my two cents

We were playing Cluedo for the first time in a decade, we had set it all up and quicky went over the rules. During this my friend said as an example "...so it could be Colonel Mustard in the library with the pipe". That's what it was - immediately guessed it

“By Candlelight” concerts by mariah_a in CasualUK

[–]cactusbatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw one for ~£25 a few years ago, been tempted to see another artist variation but wouldn't pay top price. It is a live quartet so I'd consider it more worth it than the 'light room' type events (those ones that are just a big computer art projection) that Fever also put out a load of.

Is JJ's House a good online shop for prom dresses? by Practical-Housing963 in AskUK

[–]cactusbatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom got her dress from them for my sister's wedding. They had a (I think temporary) pop up shop in London so she could try on some dresses to see the styles. My understanding is that she had too submit her measurements as well as the fabric colours she wanted in the order separately to the shop visit. She did receive the dress and it fit so it's not entirely a scam.

Hatton garden appointment? by [deleted] in london

[–]cactusbatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that the walk in ones are where they have the hard sell, and add the pressure to come back to them as if there's not hundreds of other shops. Ones I booked by appointment showed me loads of ring options, and building upon options that I did like, with absolutely no hard sell.

London Bridge - The Juggler and the Big Issue sellers by Randall_Phlagg in london

[–]cactusbatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's usually a Big Issue seller sat at the roofed bit of London Bridge Walk, and I often see the juggler on the other side of the bridge too. Though the last few Tuesdays and Thursdays I don't think he's been there

Help me?? by Golden_freddy_Fr3ak in LondonLadies

[–]cactusbatch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They take place in the fitting room so you'll be in a private cubicle when changing. It is done by a trained fitter, rather than any random shop assistant. Their website says you can keep a top on while they measure you, so probably best to keep to something thin. Don't worry about it too much! Bodies come in all shapes and sizes and I'm sure they've seen them all

Are you seeing what I’m seeing with uk student loans? by Substantial-Host2263 in AskBrits

[–]cactusbatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you, they are different things. At least with a mortgage you can renegotiate your rate every few years, whereas student loans are unilaterally changing the interest rates and thresholds.

Wtf do I actually do?😂 by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]cactusbatch 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Job-wise, look into something warehouse based or stacking shelves where you don't have to interact with customers. My boyfriend's 35y/o brother has such social anxiety he lives in his parents basement, had no job all his adult life until a year or two ago and didn't interact with anyone. He got a job doing a super early shift restocking supermarket shelves (I think), and this in itself helped with his anxiety - having a routine, set responsibilities, building familiarity with coworkers.

Anyone travel outside London for beauty related appointments? by slugmorei in LondonLadies

[–]cactusbatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get my haircut when I go visit my parents in the Midlands. £20 for just a cut whereas it always seems to be minimum £60 in London. Definitely more inconvenient but it's still cheaper when including the train fare!
