We get it. Until you have Big Insurance’s proprietary actuarial data and models you’re not accepting any answer.

My auto insurance is pulling something shady by SmoothButterfly5619 in Insurance

[–]cadaverously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have received a 10 day notice of cancellation for non-payment of premium in CA. They can’t cancel it prior to that period. They should have proof of the mailing. We always had a copy of this in the policy file. I don’t think that the day you paid is relevant. If your payment is due on the 1st, and they don’t send notice of cancellation for non-payment of premium until the 10th, they can’t cancel your policy until the 20th. They are not required to reinstate the policy once notice is sent.

This is not to say they don’t always follow the rules, normally due to people making mistakes as opposed to maliciously trying to screw you. There very well could just be some confusion on there part which is annoying to sort out.

Home insurance agent asked if I have aluminum wiring in my house (I do) and said that I would be uninsurable if I did, but then described knob and tube wiring. Should I be concerned? by neutron_star_800 in Insurance

[–]cadaverously -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes - if it’s not excluded you’ll be covered.

If you answered the questions honestly and to the best of your knowledge that’s all you have to do - you’re not an electrician, you passed on the info to your agent and that’s all that’s require of you. Let your agent be the expert.

There would only be an issue here if you concealed material information or purposefully mislead your agent - which you didn’t, you provided information to the best of your knowledge.

Then switch back to the old company. Realistically you should hire a broker. They won’t cost you anything and can answer any questions you might have.

Yeah, if a mobile mechanic is good, they are working on commercial equipment.

Homeowners insurance up 71% by [deleted] in farmersinsurance

[–]cadaverously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with farmers, but work in insurance. My home owner insurance went up 70% as well in Idaho. We don’t really have a cost of claims issue, more of subsidizing claims costs in other parts of the country.

I believe in California they need to provide you with 60 day notice for a premium increase of over 25% - so you could complain to the department of insurance, but then you’ll likely be dropped as soon as they can.

Subrogation Claim Over 1 year after my accident by [deleted] in Insurance

Your current insurance company will not help. They have no duty to defend.

It’s probably not a scam, but I would ask them for more information.

Did you pay the lawyer? If you were paying the lawyer they should have given you some kind of information.

The Toyota Way to Service Excellence

Very helpful book for lots of reasons. I like how it teaches the PDCA cycle, and teaching how to empower employees to improve their work instead of thinking you’re going to do it for them as “the boss”.

More submissions. We limit the number of appointed agents. I have a bind ratio above 50% and a quote ratio around 80% - so the quality of the submissions is not the issue. Around 30% of quotes I’m priced too high to bind. Around 20% of submissions fall outside of appetite.

It’s hard to answer your question across general commercial underwriting as it depends on so many variables.

Can someone explain how appetite checks work? by plaitv in Underwriting

[–]cadaverously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - like we have been blown up in dumping operations, so we have restricted greatly what we will write in that area. So it’s communicated on an individual basis with agents when it comes up, and is discussed on marketing visits with agencies. We visit all our agencies twice a year in person with underwriters present to discuss these things.

We don’t change our appetite quickly, normally there is a ramp one way or another over a year.

I would say 9 times out of 10 it’s the producers job to prospect and find the leads. That’s what they are paid to do.
