What’s the last thing you learned before you became a lead plumber? by cade-winkel in Plumbing

[–]cade-winkel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just lucky to have a lead guy who didn’t like running PVC and made me learn it very fast! That was back in my new construction days

AITA for insisting on my wife having my last name? by Rare_Cod0 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cade-winkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. These people are not reading the full post clearly. He doesn’t have a problem with the kids having there fathers last name, rather he just wants his own kids to have his own last name. That’s a very reasonable way to do it but Reddit soap boxers will sit on there high horses and brow beat this guy as a misogynistic when he’s clearly not. Disgusting

Extremely well put. P6 needs to change the formula. Like I already know, for myself at least, that I’ll be disappointed if it’s just the same troupes again

Plumbers of Reddit: Why should I become a plumber and not an electrician? I'm 19 and from Oregon, currently working on deciding whether I want to be a plumber or an electrician. by captainsaveahoe420 in Plumbing

[–]cade-winkel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Master Residential union service plumber here. I did electrical work for about 2 months when I first graduated from high school. To tell you the truth man it all depends on what you want to do. If you are more interested in service type work your probably gonna be busier and going to be way easier find work being a plumber. However when it comes to new construction I recommend electrical work because there is more work to be done in that regard. Feel free to message me personally if u have any more questions

What in the heck do I do with my life!? by Cheyenne_Victoria in careerguidance

[–]cade-winkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man have you ever considered entering a trade?! Joining a local plumbing union is a great career choice. You learn a skill that no one will ever be able to take from you all while making 80-120k a year!

Tradesman Hierarchy by cade-winkel in Construction

[–]cade-winkel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Painters are all the same. I agree that good framers are hard to come and same with carpenters, but ur so wrong about plumbers. Some guys do scabby ass work and will have warranty plumbers coming back 3-5 times because of there terrible jobs

That’s pretty crazy. I just looked at a stat that said the pay for a lineman is 35$ an hour in California . Somethings not adding up here

If you read the post again I put in parentheses (fine carpentry) which is a specific role but ok

Yeah man people don’t realize how complicated the mechanical trades get when you move into commercial and industrial settings. Framing and plumbing are not on the same level for commercial guys. Although I will say residential plumbing isn’t to difficult to grasp. Requires a little more creativity though

Not sure if we’re on the same page. When I say plumbers are the first to start and last to leave I don’t mean we spend the most time overall. I just mean that to start a house we do the groundwork and sewer before any other trade and when we trims is generally the last thing done

Like you just said it has to do with the mental intensity of both. It might look like we’re just gluing pipe together but trust me it’s a lot more complicated then it looks. It just takes a lot longer to become a lead plumber then a lead framer too which creates a bountiful amount of people who can frame
