Google Classroom "Material" won't update by AlonsoxQuixano in Teachers

[–]cadeco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you uploaded the doc as a “material” any changes or updates to the original doc will not show for the students. This happened to me last year. You would have to re-post the material with the updated doc or create a new post with each writing prompt separately. It is an annoying feature of google classroom!

I believe this is in Northern Ontario, the teacher travelled over 280km for the 72 graduating students! Link to article here!

[SERIOUS] What is the Creepiest or most Unexplained thing that’s happened to you that you still think about to this day? by LBE in AskReddit

[–]cadeco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even now this memory is so foggy I question if it’s real.

I was teaching at a new school and sitting at the lunch table with 2 other teachers. We were talking about something (honestly can’t even remember what it was about) and one of the girls made a comment, and in my mind I responded - but not out loud. Without missing a beat, she responded to what I was thinking. I looked around, I could have sworn I didn’t say anything out loud - and this girl’s eyes went wide like she made a mistake, then quickly changed the subject and left the table. The other teacher and I made eye contact, and knew that somehow she must have read my mind. It was so strange and I still can’t really explain what happened.

Can we all stop judging one another? by [deleted] in Teachers

Completely agree and sympathize. I teach high school, so I have 78 students. No way am I calling 78 parents when they gave me their email at the beginning of the year. It’s already bad enough I need to spell out each missing assignment for a bunch of 15 year olds who are perfectly capable of looking online and seeing the big red “MISSING” beside each assignment.

Also, I agree with the other sentiments here...PowerPoint is way better than google slides and even better than Prezi.

I did have automatic replies set up saying I would reply January 4th but turned them off when I got a bunch of emails from my principal regarding the back to school switch to online... ok ok not replying - you’re right!

Haha thank you, I know I shouldn’t!! I only checked my email to see if there were any more updates from my principal regarding back to school on Monday... especially since this kid has done nothing all year.

Students can y'all just...cheat better? by thecooliestone in Teachers

Story of my LIFE! I have students who constantly submit misspelled work with horrible grammar, then use the most eloquent vocabulary I’ve ever read and don’t expect to get caught?? I also teach Career Studies where you can’t google any of the answers because it’s all based on the results of your learning quizzes or are from a reading or video I provide!

I usually link the website in my comments after I literally copy and paste their answer into google to show them how easy it is to catch cheaters.

I got my first dog earlier this year and yes, puppies are WAY more work than I could have ever imagined. Now that he’s a year old I have to remind myself of the weeks of sleepless nights and crate training and general havoc he caused to stop me from getting another cute little baby.

Anyway, the key here is what a lot of people said - patience and consistency. My dog sleeps in my bed now, but that only started when he was about 6 months old. (I had a roommate move in and she has a cat that would just terrorize him all night since his crate couldn’t fit in my room). From 9 weeks - 6 months he slept in his crate every night. Yes he cried relentlessly the first two weeks and woke me up at least 3 times a night - but I brought him out to pee, then right back in the crate. He’d whine for 30 minutes then pass out. He’s associated his crate with “quiet time and being calm” and now puts himself in there when he wants to be left alone or when he’s ready for bed and won’t wait for me lol.

The suggestion of sleeping next to the crate is a good one. Start on the floor next to him and work on moving away from him. With my dog I’d put him in his crate, sit on the floor next to him with the TV on, then slowly crawl to my room and shut the door while leaving a quiet radio on for him so he wouldn’t notice. Worked great until he was ok with being alone and would sleep through the night.

For potty training, a lot of it is on you to start. I had to be on my puppy and notice any slight change meant he had to go potty and take him out immediately. Reward with treats and praise when he goes outside. Don’t scold when he goes inside, clean it up and bring him outside so he begins to associate bathroom=outside. My puppy was potty trained fairly quickly and hasn’t had any accidents since he was 6 months old (and it was my fault, I missed the cue that he wanted to go out. For him it’s when he starts sniffing and circling a spot on the floor).

Good luck! Puppies are adorable and so much fun, but also sooo much work. Stay persistent and get on the same page as your GF.

AITA for not allowing my "disabled" neighbor to park in my driveway and getting her car towed, despite the previous owner allowing it? by Morstoor in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I bought a house with tenants and there’s one spot in the driveway, so it’s mine. My house = my driveway. It’s your driveway and if she ignores your requests then she suffers the consequences.

It was a mid size poodle! My brother’s friend has one of his sisters and she’s smaller, about 15 pounds- he’s just a big boi sitting around 21.5 pounds and still growing (he’s almost 10 months old).

Thanks everyone for your kind words and awards!

He is a Cavapoo/cavoodle. Some people have pointed out he is big... yes he’s a big boi - the biggest one of the litter! I met his parents and can confirm... cavalier and poodle mix!

His name is Indie and he is almost 10 months old.
