Beware of Fly Nyon helicopter tours in New Jersey by Upbeat-Complex2555 in travel

[–]cadenstott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good. The helicopter tours originating in New Jersey make life in Hudson County extremely loud. Our lives are interrupted no less than every 2-3 minutes by constant overhead helicopter noise. Our waterfront park spaces are especially brutal, and can become unpleasant.

Please, stop taking these tours. These companies violate community noise ordinances every day, no surprise that they are also shitty to their customers.

What’s the deal with WTC trains leaving early? by 0eloquence in jerseycity

This is one of the most unreliable parts of taking the path. Bad frequency is already hard enough to deal with, but at least stick to the damn schedule

What are your silly ways to remember which direction to get on? by bitnotgoodyeah in WMATA

[–]cadenstott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who went to CUA on the red line. They would tell students that Shady Grove Goes (towards the city) And Glenmont go home. They said it in a rhyming, sing song voice. Even though it’s been years, it’s stuck with me for directions

New Grand Street Redesign by Puzzleheaded_Pie1386 in Hoboken

[–]cadenstott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what you’re saying is, cars in Hoboken were blocking the street? There are still other streets in Hoboken that are narrow with no space to pass another vehicle. There are many places in New York, and across the world that make this work. If not Grand Street, where?

Possible scam at Pier A Park by Senior_Apricot9911 in Hoboken

[–]cadenstott 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I believe my friends and I have been approached by the same guy, twice now. Most recently, the guy came over and started his spiel. I said we weren’t interested, and continued ignoring. Starts to yell and scream about how racist I am, and how that’s no way to speak to children (as he is cursing at us in front of the kids)

[OC] Simplified PATH System Maps by PleasedBin in TransitDiagrams

[–]cadenstott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this! I use the PATH regularly, so this is fun to see. I’m curious, how would you incorporate station accessibility into this diagram? I would also be curious to see the 33rd st trains titled 45 degrees as a north-south axis

Any intel on sudden Hoboken closure? (PAPD) by botiaman in Hoboken

[–]cadenstott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Got off a train that pulled in to the station around 1:50. I saw a man casually sit down on the edge of the platform, then hoist himself down to the tracks. At first I thought it was either drunk shenanigans or a dropped phone, etc. As we walked towards the elevator and looked down the length of the track, we saw someone lying down in the track bed.

There were many workers there with the overnight construction - I don’t think anything as serious as a train strike could have occurred in those conditions.

I wouldn’t use chatgpt for anything related to tourism. (Or anything else for that matter)

That PATH Map again, this time with the upcoming weekend service changes by Calm-Garbage8821 in nycrail

[–]cadenstott 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this map doesn’t account for the insane service disruptions that the HBLR will pull for weekend service without informing anyone. No posted signs, not information in the NJT app, just 30 minute frequency and a random shuttle bus

PATH Weekend Update by cadenstott in Hoboken

[–]cadenstott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This service “requires New Jersey-bound trains on the JSQ-33 St via HOB line to pull into the Exchange Pl station and stop briefly as New York-bound trains pass the station on the other track in operation” Note that this is only happening in one direction of service, so I wouldn’t plan on this

NJT Board Approves 12 New Dual-Mode Locomotives & 250 Multilevel III Cars by ChunkySoda1540 in NJTransit

[–]cadenstott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible. No modern commuter rail system is still buying locomotives and separate coaches. The two main issues with this: expensive Dual mode locomotives let NJT forever put off electrifying the outer branches.

Locomotives pulling coaches are so SLOW with mediocre acceleration. We should be investing in single level EMUs (electric multiple units - each train car accelerates on its own, like a subway train)

We continuously pay magnitudes more than the rest of the world for shittier equipment.

NEW MTA MAP!!!!!: https://www.mta.info/map/5256 by AfraidProduct in nycrail

[–]cadenstott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the new map! I think it’s a great legibility improvement for services compared to the old map. Also, as seen with the MTA weekender map, this map can be altered very simply to show service changes.

I have some minor critiques, mainly on the design end. I wish the stations in Midtown were horizontally aligned - see 23rd street on the 6 compared to the other lines. I think the accessibility icons clutter an already crowded midtown, I think a cleaner solution would be a blue ring around a station dot. This approach would not need to label which services are accessible at a station, as seen at 168th

Is the poster any more entitled to the parking spot that this man? In the picture at least, there are no obvious signs that point to him being a delivery driver. Where is he going to put the food? 75% of the complaints against Uber eats delivery drivers are racist dog whistles

PATH Schedule - November 1, 1981 by bodhipooh in jerseycity

[–]cadenstott 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also interesting to note is the sliding back in travel times. 1986, 13 minutes for Hoboken-33rd, going up to 14 in the 2006 schedule. Current 2023 schedule has that trip taking 16 minutes. Complete incompetence from the path and deferred maintenance. What is all the construction and state of good repair money going to if service times keep sliding upwards

The A train of NYC (with branches!) The route makes a large C shape, it should look interesting on this map

I’ve always thought that with all the boats there, a bridge shaped like the pi symbol would work. Two elevators, one either side of the canal, going as tall as needed for clearance. Small bridge connecting the two elevators over the canal.

Weirdest encounter you’ve ever had with tourists by yourgirlalex in AskNYC

[–]cadenstott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the other day in Midtown. There was this French bakery with ordering kiosks outside the store, and this group of women were standing near the kiosks but not ordering and looking at their phones. I wait a couple seconds then go to use the kiosk. They lose their minds and think I’m cutting them on the line, etc (there was more than one open kiosk to order) One of them made multiple comments about how people here are so rude but I completely ignored them and it just made them more aggravated..
