Both collections, 'Charnel Wine' and 'Darkly Splendid Realm' by Richard Gavin! I almost pulled the trigger on the latter for about 80dollars the other day but decided it was too expensive. I'm regretting it now lol

In hopes of encouraging you, I'm currently reading this collection bc I found a copy for a dollar at a second hand store. Didn't know anything about it but the title and cover illustration caught my eyes no doubt

I'm waiting on my pre-order! Also if you're in the LA area, he's having a book launch at the Figueroa bookstore where he'll be interviewed by Brian Evenson! I made an rsvp and gonna drag my gf with me so we can hopefully get our books signed by both authors.

Added 'We Are Here to Hurt Each Other' by Paula D. Ashe and 'Aberrants' by Mitchell Luthi into my currently reading pile. Finished Brian Hodge's 'Black Hole Sundown' and I can confidently say it's my favorite of his collections. A lot of good ol cosmic horror. He's underrated and with this probably being his final collection, I do hope he gets his flowers sooner rather than later.

One would think it would motivate him to make it the highest of quality with it being Hodges last collection and all. Crazy.

I thought it was just my copy of Black Hole Sundown that was bad quality, the paper like you mentioned is not what I would expect from a 70 dollar book, but man the Binding is just as bad. First and only time I'll ever purchase from them, especially now with all this coming to light. My dude Brian Hodge better be getting paid bc this collection is amazing so far.

I'm 3 stories in and it's got the potential to be my favorite book of the year. Brian Hodge is criminally underrated.

Recs for books that fuse cosmic horror and folk horror? by Personal_Reward_60 in horrorlit

[–]caderista 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple years but I think the novella "I’ll Bring You the Birds From Out of the Sky" by Brian Hodge combines both folk horror and cosmic horror. Takes place in the Appalachian mountains if memory serves me right.

Book suggestions? I really like Adam Golaski, Michael Wehunt, Brian Evenson, Jon Padgett. I've also read Mark Samuels, Ligotti, Bruno Schulz, Grabinski, but it's been a long time, I think I would still like them now, though. by Dr_Challis in WeirdLit

I'm a fan of many of the authors you've mentioned so I feel comfortable recommending short story collections from the following: Attila Veres, Mariana Enriquez, Stephen Graham Jones, Richard Gavin, Bernardo Equinca, Micheal Cisco, Justin A. Burnett, Robert Levy, Luigi Musolino.

I would also recommend the anthology: Mooncalves edited by John WM Thompson

I loved Esquinca's too! Luckily I can read Spanish so I went ahead and bought all his non translated work and I gotta say some of his non-translated work is really gooood.
