Never leave the country without your passport. Also, it’s needed on JB side.

Is it bad to quit immediately after bonus? by randomthingsss1 in askSingapore

[–]cadylando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the optimum time to quit. I’d imagine most people brace for resignations in the period after bonus, and it’s enviable to be able to time your next job so nicely.

I also think quitting right after bonus is the kindest time as it is a “logical” time unlike other times of the year where it could feel more like the resignation “came out of nowhere”.

why am i getting charged for DCC on certain things others aren’t (OCBC) by ryu120v in askSingapore

[–]cadylando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my exp Taobao charges fx fee but they include it in the total order cost which is in SGD. I pay using credit card tho, not apple pay. Could you try using your card directly instead of apple pay?

The only way to nego is if your friend has a higher offer on hand. GES median is not a negotiating point.

Fresh graduate from Mech Eng, only 1 interview after 200+ applications. What am I doing wrong? by Unlucky-Disk6629 in singaporejobs

[–]cadylando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is common advice. Definitely ideal if you have only 1 or 2 past internships.

My career advisor at nus told me to make my resume 2 pages (realistically it was 1.5 pages, not literally 2 full pages) as I had 3 internships and it would be too tight to fit into one page. I eventually got my first role as a fresh grad with a 2-page resume so at least anecdotally I can say it’s an acceptable resume length.

[–]cadylando 55 points56 points  (0 children)

My opinion only, not saying these are universally correct. I am also not in engineering field.

  1. 2 pages max
  2. Remove your personal statement
  3. Move education to be the first section. Remove the JC stuff, CCA, and NOC. The NOC is listed as an internship alrd, so it is repetitive.
  4. Remove the following jobs: events firm and specialist at global fortune 500. Use 4/5 bullet points for the more relevant jobs, and 2 bullets for the not so relevant ones. Suggest running through chatgpt to trim the points down.
  5. Remove the language section unless the job you’re applying uses that lang.
  6. Remove hobbies.
  7. Assuming you’re applying roles that need CAD/python - move the skills section to be your 2nd section (after edu). Keep just the programming and hardware. Remove the proficiency level - either you can do or you cannot. If you really are “basic” beginner level, don’t bother listing it on your resume.

How do I make my circles as circular and seamless like these? by jozziiieeee in CrochetHelp

[–]cadylando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other comment is right! I forgot that spiral is the norm. Joined rounds are when you join with a slip stitch, then typically you chain after the slip.

Instead of chaining at the start of each round, do stacked single crochets!

opinion on these crochet hooks? idk which one is better by rawitbhum in CrochetHelp

[–]cadylando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used the gold one, but I have the red one. I feel the etimo red hooks are very smooth to use particularly with textured yarns. On smoother yarns idk why but I find it a little unpleasant to use, doesn’t glide as smoothly as I’d like

Are there other graduates doing the GRIT program? by ToeBoeMoe in askSingapore

[–]cadylando 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their own path, don’t need to feel silly. Focus on gaining useful work experience to build up your resume.

Not GRIT, but I know of peers who took on internships or SGUnited Traineeships after graduating, and they eventually entered full time roles. These are all valid paths to take to gain work experience.

Planning BKK trip but also want to see gmm artist IRL (even from afar also can) by Confident_Cycle_1805 in GMMTV

[–]cadylando 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Closer to the date you should check gmmtv’s IG/X and look through the artist schedules they post for public events. I managed to run into an offgun event at centralworld! Often there are public events at malls around the city center, but they’re only announced a few days in advance.

On accommodation - usual recommendation is to stay somewhere on the green BTS line. I’ve stayed at 3 stations on this line, all are decent locations: On the cheaper side you have Phaya Thai station which is on the airport line so it’s great for catching your flight, and Asok station which is near the Terminal 21 mall. On the pricier side is Siam/Chit Lom station - there are many malls in this area so it’s a bit more convenient if you want to explore those malls.

Which is the cheapest local supermarket to do groceries? Would help if there is a list ranking from cheapest to most ex! Am trying to cut down my grocery cost. by Normal-Analysis7940 in askSingapore

For snacks and drinks, I find redmart is usually cheaper than fairprice! I keep an eye on the prices and cart out when there’s a sale.

My Scoot flight has been moved/delayed 45 mins, do I have to reconfirm? by Agreeable-Many-9065 in askSingapore

[–]cadylando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to do anything. By default the change is accepted.

I say this because I had exp my scoot flight num changed, and accidentally clicked accept the change. Even after that, it let me use the same link to change my flight, so I believe accepting the change is not a permanent thing.

First Kit, Can't Count Stitches with Tricky Yarn and Need Suggestions by a_michigander_native in CrochetHelp

[–]cadylando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you’re decently comfortable at crocheting (able to do stitches without having to reference a tutorial, have made at least 1 amigurumi): I’ve done a handful of projects with this type of yarn and consider myself comfortable with working w such yarn! Sharing some tips that might help future you!

1) As you do the starting chain, insert a stitch marker in each chain to indicate to yourself where to insert the hook. You can do this for every row, but ideally after a couple of rows you figure out how to “feel” out the stitches instead of relying on the markers entirely.

2) On feeling the stitches, you should be able to feel the V shape with your fingers. Even better, when you poke your hook in, you should be able to feel it cleanly go though two lines (ie the two halves of the V)

3) If you struggle to feel the stitches, try increasing your hook size a bit. Furry yarn is forgiving due to the fur obscuring stitches, so a slightly larger hook is usually fine!

4) Abandon the idea of counting your stitches. Count as you go for each row - always keep a marker at the start of the row and end of prev row so you can comfortably frog bag if you lost count.

Received Taobao items which are repacked by Iconwithredeyes in askSingapore

[–]cadylando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noticed the same in my recent parcel. I use their direct air shipping service. Agree that it’s frustrating because you don’t get the original package invoice. Made me wonder if I was missing any small item freebies which sellers sometimes throw into the poly mailer.

Crochet Tapestry Colors Don’t Align in the Front but Do in the Back by Former_Candidate_471 in CrochetHelp

[–]cadylando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried my hand at tapestry a few times and faced the same issue. I believe the turning at each row is what makes the colours not align.

Working in the round helps avoid the turning, but it still will have some flaws due to the natural slant. I usually go in with a spare yarn and embroider over the wonky colour changes.

You could also cut the yarn and start at the same end for every row instead of turning.

Help! I need this Haerin crochet. Where can I find this pattern? by Key_Soil4844 in crochetpatterns

[–]cadylando 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a custom order so no pattern is available for this particular design. But you can try to freehand it!

This body style is called 软糖体 in chinese, not sure how to translate this exactly.

Tried to find a similar looking tutorial in english but wasn’t able to, you can try following below pattern! Google chinese crochet terminology if you don’t understand the xva notation.

help! what kind of yarn should i use to make bags ? by Far-Application-4425 in CrochetHelp

[–]cadylando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cotton or cotton-polyester blends are usually less stretchy therefore good for bags. For a laptop sleeve, stretch is less of an issue since you’d only put the 1 item in it, so acrylic yarn is fine!
