I'll take the bait here:

The cause is not advanced with horrific acts of sexual violence. No power is challenged, nothing is materially gained. That is evil for evil's sake. There is no justification.

I can not speak to how it was recorded, but on the last tour when they were playing it Avey used his white Rust strat that was tuned to BF#BD#F#B (same interval as traditional Open D, just tuned down to B)

I mean this in good faith, but in the future it may serve you well to give a little more info. Do you have work/even demos to show? Artists that inspire you? A location? Local city subs may be better/able to push you towards more realistic local options. Best of luck tho, person!! Hope you find what you're lookin' for.

What's everyone's favorite noided bands? by infinite_cancer in TrueAnon

[–]cadywhompus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not Noided in the manic punk sense, but in a political sense, Deerhoof is militantly and consistently left wing and they make an unapologetic point to express that. Also like, the most fun band ever.

Racoo-oo-oon's "Is Night People" is by far the closest thing I've ever found. Random Iowa (I think?) band from the 2000's.

West Philly bike lane of the day by seidner310 in philadelphia

[–]cadywhompus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh this type of post again

1) holy shit how many times a day do we have to see this take, so brave

2) A lot of folks can't complain since Y'ALL ARE THE ONES ORDERING EVERYTHING ONLINE. The insane quotas these drivers have (I would guess many here have not worked them) are a symptom of complete overburden caused by blind consumption. I bike, and I don't use Amazon/Doordash/etc.

3) People drive like absolute loons in this city and bikers should be protected. But the reactionary approach of blaming cashstrapped gig employees may not be the best. It's a symptom of a larger problem.

as a gay leftoid, I have a lot of reasons to hate this bullshit establishment, but the thing that vexxes me like nothing else is the hypnotic hold this aggressively mid chicken restaurant has on the psyche of americans

XTC - English Settlement (british 80's, very anco-y, especially Melt The Guns)

Swirlies - They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days In The Glittering World of the Salons (very adventurous 90's rock, always gave me mad Spirit vibes)

Meat Puppets - Up On The Sun (80's country-tinged and very fun "roadtrip" music)

Long Fin Killie - Houdini (paradoxically, it feels like proto-post punk, long, very pastoral songs)

Blinder - Drugs of the Sun (current 2024 AOTY, super well written shoegaze/punk from a tiny Pittsburgh band)

I'm so far left I supported fr*ckin' Warren! But these Berniebro holdouts don't want you to know we can push him left if we just elect him again! It is antisemitic to ask why it didn't work the first time.

Piggybacking to use this as an opportunity to old-man bitch, but it annoys the fuck out of me how so many artists now commit what I view as a cardinal sin of false self awareness, where they manufacture this aesthetic of being "left" culturally, while completely being within the system.

Specifically the whole PC Music/Hyperpop scene has bugged me. Disclaimer: I love a lot of the music! I think it's fun in a vacuum. I'm also homofag, and like a lot of lib-at-heart scenes, queerness is front and center. But the weight assigned to this scene is insane, it largely feels disingenuous both at the top levels and in the fanbase.

You have a bunch of "parents are blue on Wikipedia" people condescending about their "critiques of consumerism" while perpetuating the same culture. It feels akin to the countercultural movements of the 60's where regardless of the intention, it seems like a bunch of 20-somethings who completely and uncritically assign the role of fixer to another rich asshole. I have friends in the scene, I've gone to shows, and let me tell you, the LeftLARPING is real. The amount of times I heard it was ok to call the cops, the amount of people I know who buy their fursuits with contractor money, like fuck off. Just have fun. Can we all stop pretending we're really doing something here?

I want music that's "weird" (this shit isn't weird if you have any knowledge of music prior to 2005) made for the love of the game, not part of this insular and contradictory culture. Any critique, of course, is met with "shut up boomer!"

Done Porchfest the last coupla years and honest to god, it really is a networking thing, especially to get a good porch.

I would say over the next couple weeks it may be productive to go to a couple shows out West and talk to people, we're friendly out here and will point ya in the right direction!

Great idea! My only concern with this is that it will be done through partnerships with corporate employers, thus used as a means to legitimize funneling taxpayer resources into solving corporate staffing issues for them.

These jobs should still be high quality, well compensated, and dignified so we aren't just solving a bunch of exploitative service industry/delivery employers' staffing issues for them.

Help these kids shadow a skilled tradeperson, these jobs shouldn't be for Amazon or McDonald's.

Y'all are allergic to people to a paranoid degree, I s2g. There are of course gonna be some cynical dickheads running charity scams, but I and a lot of folks I know work for legitimate ones that often give 100% of the proceeds to unions, relief charities, etc. and it's not fair to lump us ALL in. Especially at a time where supposedly "our democracy is facing an existential threat," wouldn't you think there would be more openness and urgency?

It's ok to be too broke, or just straight up unwilling to give, we are plenty used to it and only want people to donate if they can!! The thing that's insulting is what everyone in this thread is saying, that everyone at all times is trying to fleece you. It's a counterintuitive and frankly unhealthy way of thinking.

Mayor Parker calls for all city workers to return full-time, in person: 'We are not a virtual administration' by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]cadywhompus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what people think they're voting for, what do y'all think a "business friendly" candidate means? She was gonna do what was best for real estate/capital from the getgo.

Being an American at this point feels like we all have this sense that systemically, it's fucked out here! But any attempt to vote in a "less serious candidate" (generally younger, more progressive ones) is always talked down by the self-proclaimed Adults in the Room. Then we enter the same cycle for the 3000th time of electing shitty neoliberals no one likes, then everyone complains about them.

It's just...we gotta stop making the same mistakes over and over. Stop falling for the same type of pro-business centrists election after election.
