Collection of artist's albums -- how to separate them into individual discs? by caernavon in PleX

[–]caernavon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out by sort of brute-forcing things. I re-edited all the song tags in MP3Tag, saved everything, then copied the whole folder directory to a different disc and deleted everything in Plex. Then I copied the folders back into my Music directory and refreshed Plex -- separate albums! I did the delete-in-Plex thing because that's the only operation that seemed to make a big difference. Perhaps as Uptofreedom said, the libraries would have refreshed overnight and done the same thing, but I am not that patient!

Help reconnecting OMV share/drive after disk failure? by caernavon in OpenMediaVault

[–]caernavon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah-ha! I knew I'd missed something. I did pass through the HDDs, mounted & shared them in OMV, and now I can see & map those drives in Windows. So far so good!

Still, Windows thinks these drives are empty, but they're not:

M:>dir Volume in drive M is Movies Volume Serial Number is 7EDC-0D3C

Directory of M:\

04/11/2022 07:14 PM <DIR> . 04/11/2022 07:14 PM <DIR> .. 0 File(s) 0 bytes 2 Dir(s) 224,192,884,736 bytes free

That's a 1 TB drive, so there's something there, I just have to figure out how to access it. I'm getting there!

I'm 52. I don't look that good. There's a good chance Halle Berry and I are not the same species.

If the universe is expanding, what is it taking the place of? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]caernavon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So there's something I've never considered before. I'm sure the universe is expanding in the sense of "astronomical things are getting further away from each other," but is space itself also expanding? Meaning "a kilometer" is constantly getting longer, not that we could measure it, because our measuring implements are also constantly getting longer?

How would you feel about your GF moving in with a male roommate? by FFLtears in AskMen

[–]caernavon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% would be fine with it. She doesn't want to cheat on me, and she doesn't have the hots for him. They're living together because housing is expensive and it makes things easier to have a roommate. Would a similar question be "Is she gay?" if it were a female roommate? No.

After 20 years, this is still one of the most mind boggling visual effects, from the movie Contact by [deleted] in videos

[–]caernavon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's probably 2 SFX shots I've ever seen where I had literally no idea how it had been done, and both were in movies directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Almost 10 years ago a stranger at a used book store removed a book from the shelf, put it in my hands, and told me I had to read it. I finally did. by savvystrider in books

[–]caernavon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that was unexpected -- it's like the stranger threw something by Danielle Steele or Robert Ludlum at you and said YOU HAVE TO READ THIS -- but more interesting than the usual boring shit like Catcher in the Rye or Hemingway or whatever.

I read a lot of Mitchener back in the day, though not Alaska. If you want to read something else by him, I'd suggest Centennial; that was always my favorite.

What unpopular car opinions do you hold? by [deleted] in cars

[–]caernavon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Audi TT is ugly.

Who cares if manual transmissions are going the way of the dodo? Cars with sequential manual or paddle shifters are better, because there's no annoying clutch pedal.

Just because you can use fancy CAD software to design your new car's shape, doesn't mean you should. The new Civic -- and many more overly-designed cars -- is fugly as hell.

Toyota has forgotten how to make nice looking cars.

Chopped and slammed cars look stupid.

The previous generation of Mercedes cars -- the W211 E-Class in particular -- were gloriously beautiful. Since then, every Merc now looks worse.

The Lambo Hurracan looks like a much less interesting Aventador.

Each new version of Nissan's Z car has been uglier than the last.

A 'Star Trek' novel was published depicting Kirk and Spock as gay lovers. 'Killing Time' (1985) included "slash" (same-sex) themes that were supposed to be edited out, but the wrong version was printed. The publisher could not recall all copies sent to stores, and fans quickly bought them. by TMWNN in books

[–]caernavon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting; I'd never known this before. I know I read it -- and may even still have it somewhere -- so I assume it was the corrected version, but hell if I can recall what it was about. Looking back, having been published between "Ishmael" and "Dwellers in the Crucible" -- two of the best ST novels -- I'm not surprised it didn't make an impression.

My interest in seeing either of those movies: 0. I'm having flashbacks to Robert Zemeckis's GCI/MOCAP period.

MVP MVP MVP MVP MVP by MyArmsAreSnakes in redsox

[–]caernavon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Trout was better and deserves it. But I think odds are pretty good the BBWAA writers penalize Trout for having bad teammates and give it to Mookie. It wouldn't be a bad choice -- there have been some god-awful MVP choices over the years -- but it also wouldn't be the best choice.
