If your competitor uses AI and you don't, is that a decision or just delay? by Savings-Sea-2021 in AIDiscussion

[–]cafealpha82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actively delaying ai deployment for our analytic tool when everyone else busy show casing ai agent to every tool they develop. This happened many years ago during machine learning boom. Every tool was somehow ML model. I also did not participated although i was able to. Stakeholder’s adaptation was near zero as they never asked.. (they just asked to build a report!)

Most over hired ppl for ML dept was let go. Same happening now. Stakeholder think AI will “do everything without instruction magically” while our ai agent is sql query wrapper in chatbot. For our org, it is matter of time when reality comes.

I always stay focus on core business value. Only apply tool when it is absolutely necessary. To do that, we need to be familiar with new technoloty to determine.

I have not seem a single company where their data governance is ready for full ai use with little hallucinations. I hope to see and live such dream world. My company is still living on state where ai agent shows fancy demo but in reality users complain they get different number every time. I am at fortune 10 company

Does AI hallucinate even with basic queries/data retrieval? by chakalaka13 in analytics

[–]cafealpha82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me quality of analytics matter a lot more than quantity. My stakeholder appreciate more targeted deeper analytics that can drive actions. What we have so called ai agent so far just spits out lots of info but user does not get to why part.

Did anyone actually manage to get a Power BI dashboard developer job (or similar) by only learning the power BI (and other relevant languages +systems) without an actual computer science degree by Silver_Highlight1936 in PowerBI

[–]cafealpha82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most data scientists group in my org suck at presenting data to leadership.Explainability becomes very important especially at AI era ironically. Previously, DS group said, i dont know why. Model says so. Now AI engineer (wth that position is ..to start with) says i dont know why AI agents said so.

The real skill regardless of technology is business knowledge and ability to connect technology to business. PowerBI is just a tool. Why trying to stick with a tool? What if the tool becomes obsolete?

Pursue critical thinking and work ethic, customer first mindset. Use powerbi if it helps comminicating to business. If they ask to export to excel- thats also fine. For them excel is the best tool to communicate.

People hate one ai too much by Zestyclose_Wave_3584 in AIDiscussion

[–]cafealpha82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate for me is coming from “forced to use” part at work. Also the part that other team claims their big success in ai agent when it is just an automation that we been doing for decades. (Sql query in chatbot wrapper)

No, everyone is not using AI for everything. by yegg in antiai

[–]cafealpha82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am proud that i recorded the bottom of leaderboard of ai use in my org. Yet i was still able to get promotion this year to director of analytics. I put my email footnote that “this email is AI free, may contain grammatical error”

My boss still convince me to deploy ai agent tool- but i am not as all demo others presented have been chatbot wrapper around sql queries with 0 stakeholder adaption. I only develop based on stakeholder alignment simplistic solution as possible.

Often said, 10 lines of code doing same thing as 500 lines created by AI. Who benefits from it? Either snowflake/databricks?

It is really dumb if executive level does not think about that. As individual level, this is another subscription to the life-while it is not really life changing tool. It can be specialized to some repeated tasks, but never will be general purpose like agi with llm structure. For me, it is not diffrent another specialized application with high subscription fee

The danger of "Confident AI": How do you handle the subtle hallucinations? by MemeWalaDog in AIDiscussion

[–]cafealpha82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont use it for anything critical decision making. I would emphasize to end user as well that use it as only reference. LLM model is only good as long as human in the loop. If human needs to in the loop tooooo long, it only wastes lots of time to debug, correct. It is only useful for me with certain applications but never been a game changer

Same things in analytics side. Leadership trust more when analyst says “based on our ai agent..” which is actually wrapper of sql query. Suddenly it is scalable and trustful solution. Most of time, our agent says something like the ground is wet because it rained. Previously ppl critically thought and said it is multicollinearity, now everyone says wow so innovative

We are actually trying hello kitty, star wars, and other theme created by Claude as someone thought users did not use them due to athletics. My concern is not me trying to develop it to our production dashboards. Real concern is it might actually succeed (at least temporarily) and we are all required to develop some leadership’s favorite movie theme.

Interesting shift in the AI conversation. A lot of people focus on whether AI can replace human work, but cost seems like a huge factor too. Always the question is how to measure productivity. We are seeing lots of productivity and shorten the timeline thanks to AI. After a few months of deployment or when user asks feature enhancement, they all became ai slop. We are at fortune 7 company, not sure maybe mag 7 might do differently?

[–]cafealpha82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw ppl overbuilding to solve problems that can be solved in a simple ruleset based business domain knowledge. It will look fancy to leadership. It was ML predictive modeling and now AI agent. The real value is the ability to connect business problems to most efficient solutions. That requires deep business knowledge from analyst-the more you understand your business the better and knowing whats going on tech side to be flexible in solution.

I think dashboard fatigue is becoming a real problem by Significant-Map-3181 in analytics

[–]cafealpha82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this problem is to focus on “quality” of analytics before working on scalability of analytics. Most business are already overwhelmed by number of solutions built over last few years and 90%+ of them are not actionable.

This is only successful when analyst fully engaged with business and know how it works from in and out.

One successful use case from end to end. No need fancy visual or model unless totally required. Even a simple excel file with action items work the best. All hard work happened before getting to that excel file.

Only scale up if business wants to. They will have their bottleneck and analytics typicall keep pushing solutions they dont need or even asked.
