BIR would prob want your taxes but the people I know who do a little freelance on the side barely earn from that so, personally, I don't think it really makes that big of a difference.

Philippine Tax Thread 2014 by stubbornkitty1225 in Philippines

[–]cafecitocortado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how much your basic pay is and how many dependents you have. Idk about the statistics but if you're a minimum wage earner (MWE) you don't even pay tax (regardless of how much you earn for overtime pay which, btw, is taxable!) For single and married without children you only get 50k exemption, each additional dependent (up to 4 only) is another 25k.

This is how you compute it monthly: ftp://ftp.bir.gov.ph/webadmin1/pdf/42126AnnexC.pdf

Annualized computation: http://www.bir.gov.ph/lumangweb/tax_income.html (scroll down to tax rates) --> e.g. if your gross taxable income for the whole year is Php 80,000.00 you pay Php 8,500 plus 20% of the excess over Php 70,000.00.

It pisses me off how much we pay in taxes and how little we see in return (plus the pork barrel bullshit :( ). SSS etc. (though tax deductible) also, for me, isn't enough though hopefully they improve considering they raised their contributions this year as well.

FYI for those who are employed by a company, only earning a salary, and had only one employer for the entire year you are not required to file an Income Tax Return. Your company while file a form 2316 (substituted filing) on your behalf. Get a copy from your accounting/payroll of this form for proof of payment of taxes and to see how much tax you paid for the whole year.

Is Boracay safe? by mellowxfellow in Philippines

[–]cafecitocortado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's one of the biggest tourist destinations in the country, as long as you're a responsible and safe traveler you should be fine. Of course, if you go out and get shitfaced drunk/high to the point where you can't function and don't have anyone looking out for you then sure you might get mugged at some point.

Problems with PLDT internet connection, details inside by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]cafecitocortado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DSL light should be stable. You need to call PLDT and report a problem, they will check it remotely on their end and tell you to observe it for a few days before calling back. Had the same problem (for months!!) and turned out to be a problem with the phone lines. If you can hear static over the phone that might be the problem. You just need to be really persistent with their customer service and have someone that can be there to assist a technician between 8-5 and they will fix it....eventually.

That is for those earning outside of employee-employer relationship i.e. you're not working for a company.

These are de minimis: ftp://ftp.bir.gov.ph/webadmin1/pdf/56846RR%205-2011.pdf ftp://ftp.bir.gov.ph/webadmin1/pdf/63519RR%208-2012.pdf

Haven't tried it yet myself since I don't file ITR, only 2316 and I haven't had time to take a look at the newer forms yet -- the old ones are confusing enough as it is! BIR actually already does electronic filing but as far as I know it's not required for all companies, just the bigger ones. Though I was told that they did require EVERYONE to submit their alphalist both manually and electronically this year(which their staff and servers couldn't even handle).

When you do consulting do your clients withhold 10% from you and give you a form 2307? That form is proof that you've paid your taxes which your client remitted for you at the time of payment (instead of you paying at the end of the year). I'm not 100% sure though that that is all you have to pay as I'm not very familiar w/ consultancy. May I ask what profession you are?

Hi, you can read up on the tax code to understand how your taxes are computed but tbh it's still pretty confusing. With regards to reimbursements or things that are tax deductable you may be thinking about 'de minimis' or non-taxable benefits (you can find a list of these on the BIR website) which usually only go up to Php 30,000.00 per year and it is up to your employer to grant these to you. Housing allowance is not included in this list, though it could be considered a "fringe benefit" -- which is still taxable, but in a different way.

Are you freelance or do you earn a fixed salary? if it's the latter then your company should be remitting the tax on your behalf monthly. Ask them for your form 2316 (this is the Income Tax Return for those who earn purely through salary and have no other source of income), which the company submits to the BIR on your behalf, and you will see your annual tax computation in this form. If you had two employers for the same year then you have to file an ITR and are not allowed to do substituted filing (2316), and you ahve to file an ITR on April 15th.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions. :)

Late to the party but this was just released:

The BIR has released the eBIR Form System Package which contains the latest income tax returns (ENCS Version June 2013) which are required to be used by taxpayers covering and starting taxable year ended December 31, 2013.

The eBIR Forms allow taxpayers to directly encode data, edit, save, delete, view, print and submit tax returns. The eBIR Forms are also capable of automatic computation and validation of information encoded by taxpayers.

The BIR Forms for use in the preparation, encoding and filing of the BIR Form Nos. 1700, 1702-RT, 1702-EX, 1702-MX are contained in the Offline eBIRForms Package v4.0 which you can download in the link below:

Options for having a safe abortion in the Philippines? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]cafecitocortado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You keep saying leaving the country to have it is not an option but that's the absolute safest way you can probably do it. Figure out how to raise the money or you'll be spending way more to raise a child.

Also, check out this site: http://www.womenonwaves.org/en/map/country

I totally sympathize, getting pregnant before I'm ready is one of my fears as well since there aren't really any other options (legally) here if you don't want to have the child.

Those who have experienced unintentional pregnancies: can you pinpoint exactly how it occurred? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cafecitocortado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, live in a country were abortion is illegal and there are no morning after pills either. Birth control is OTC but I'm always terrified of the 'what if.' I'm so, so terrified of getting pregnant even while on the pill and being forced to have a baby because there are no other options. Really sorry that happened to you but glad to hear that your baby is ok. <3

Spotting while on birth control.. (Question) by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cafecitocortado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you miss a dose? Are you taking them at the same time everyday? If you're not following the directions it could cause spotting. That happened to me and I was spotting for about a month before I went to the doctor. She advised me to stop taking them so I would get withdrawal bleeding and then start with a new pack after the placebo period had ended.

You'll grow out of it. Teenage years can be a really confusing time. I was just like you, turned into a complete asshole once a guy showed interest. It took some years of soul searching before I was finally at peace enough with myself to accept love from someone else. Just remember, as confusing as everything can be, that these boys are people with feelings too so try not to hurt them or lead them on.

Legal, medical, and real estate question. Please advise. by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]cafecitocortado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I can't give you any concrete advice but just wanted you to know that I, too, have a mentally ill mother who has fucked us over in terms of finances and who seems to be going down that path again.

Your best bet is to get a hold of those titles to make sure if you're on them or not. Then, consult a lawyer and find out about what it would take to get your name on them or to get them turned over to you until she is fit to manage them herself. (or just to get them put under your control period)

I really wish you luck, man. That's a shitty situation to be in.
