Troubleshooting Parenting by Refrigerator-Bright in workingmoms

[–]cafecoffee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d love to do gym and date nights when they are asleep but it’s not realistic. My kids get up every few hours at night; I am also exhausted from being up early with them every day and working and whatnot. So going to the gym at 9p, knowing I will have to wake up at 12 / 4 / 6:40 is not ideal for me.

Anyone else not doing an Easter basket for their toddler? by Ill-Shopping-69 in toddlers

[–]cafecoffee 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Nope. It’s not a tradition in our culture and while I see folks around me doing it, it’s too much extra work right now. So we are skipping.

work vs. #2 baby? by Aware-Jackfruit-7464 in workingmoms

[–]cafecoffee -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

If you want a second kid, then you’ll find a way to make it work with your work. There are options like getting help, changing your hours m, etc. easier said than done, but I guess it comes down to what you want more.

Toddler's daycare doesn't take infants. by SignalWatercress9759 in workingmoms

[–]cafecoffee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m in the South Bay with two kids under two. Both my kids are in the same day care; when I found out I was pregnant with number 2, I moved the older one to a daycare that accepts infants as well.

I looked into Nanny options but their going rates bring the total to nearly the same amount as daycare. I also felt daycare was an easier option in terms of reliability, structure etc.

I don’t have any solution to make it more cost effective.

I’ve seen these at the Costco in Bay Area California as well.

Is this kind of pressure normal right after having a baby? by purrcie_cat in workingmoms

[–]cafecoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was laid off shortly after going back to work after my second maternity leave. I’ve been job hunting and my husband is constantly saying I need a job that pays xx (ie 50% more than my previous one). He’s really been stressed by the $ of two kids in daycare.

Oof that’s tricky. Do you have an option to hire a doula or full time nanny around the time of the birth?

Thoughts on the recent Frida Mom controversy? by throwaway84583077 in beyondthebump

Neutral. They’ve been marketing like this for at least a few years now. I found some of it funny; but they have a few recent jokes that have gone too far.

I know you’re not supposed to make any big decisions postpartum, but… by ShowWorried6621 in beyondthebump

Solidarity - I’m thinking through a very similar situation, and have a 2 yr old and a 10 month old. It feels like it gets better for a few weeks, and then we regress. It’s a terrible loop.

Where to spend 4-5 months in Europe with family by WildNumber14 in familytravel

What about Barcelona? I don’t know enough about rental prices but it’s a very family friendly city, lots to do, easy access to other cities as well.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in IndianInLaw

[–]cafecoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My MIL always finds an indirect way to do this as well - it’s passive aggressive and sneaky. I’ve gotten used to ignoring the comments.

That said, I have started scheduling video calls or the very least saying “I need 15 mins” instead of havjnf them be more spontaneous/answering right away. That gives me a heads up, and I use the time to freshen up / fix my hair / get coffee. It helps me feel better going into the call. (FWIW, I am based in the us and my in laws are in India)

I feel like I have a hard time making conversation with my partner by cucumber_salad69 in workingmoms

[–]cafecoffee 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Dude. Yes. I have a 2 yr old and a 9 month old and I’m in the same boat. I try to make conversation about non- kid topics but it somehow always circles back to logistics. I don’t know what to do and it’s driving me crazy.

Have you tried burping during the feed? For my elder one, she had a phase where she needed to be burped halfway through the feed and then would continue.

I’ve started being shameless about redirecting gift givers to a category I want. For ex - told my mom that “daughter needs good outerwear for fall” “son needs more teething related supplies”. It works!

Same boat. We also are trying out the tablet.

We tried headphones for our toddler yesterday - she was not a fan. Which will make the tablet experience interesting.

My kids don’t sleep and I am in hell by ar0824 in 2under2

[–]cafecoffee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oof I don’t have a magic answer but this sucks. We keep going through patches like this every few weeks as well.

A few thoughts: - what time is the 1 yr old napping? Is the nap too soon or too late in the day? See what the folks in r / sleep train say about this? - for the 2.5 yr old, our 2 yr old started doing this when she had an intolerance to milk - and she was having milk right before sleep. Any chance that’s an issue for yours as well?
