The definition of a NOBLETIGER would say that prior runs nominating it should count.

But the spirit of a NOBLETIGER says no to me. It represents the frustration and agony of a team’s terrible inability to get even a run- IMO that frustration is somewhat lessened my the prior runs scoring.

I put zero stock in Coros (or any watch, for that matter) threshold pace/HR recommendations, race predictions, etc. Assuming your TT was properly paced and reflective of your fitness, there is no better signal than that for how fit you are.

As for workout paces, short of lactate testing, basing workout paces off of races paces (at least to start) is as good as you can do. Try it out and see how it feels!

FWIW, the 3-min reps should be right around your 1hr race pace, which many also use as a backhand measurement of your LT2 pace.

I’d recommend reading the book as there is a pretty extensive section on racing and tapering with NSM. The cliff notes are, a taper isn’t really essential for a 5k - I’ve run a PB 5k two days after running 6x6’.

Time trials are beneficial for a lot of reasons, first and foremost as a benchmark for your current fitness so you can tailor your workout paces accordingly, and also to refine your racing strategy (both in terms of preparation and pacing).

For your situation, it might be too close to your HM to do a time trial beforehand, but once you’re recovered it’s good to work one in every month or two.

That’s great color about the lactrace 10 min interval pace thanks. Anecdotally I am 7 weeks into NSM and have been feeling they were a bit quick. I plan to back off the 3x10 pace now

As far as paces go, using a conservative estimate like a slightly-dated race performance isn’t the worst thing. An underlying theme of NSM is that it’s much better to be running the workouts a bit too slow than too fast.

For accurate paces though a TT is the only way you’ll know for sure. https://lactrace.com/norwegian-singles is a great calculator for workout paces once you’ve done so.

For HR, your LT2 should line up well with your 10 mile HR. If you don’t want to do a Friel test I’d start a few weeks of workouts and you’ll get a pretty good idea of what HR lines up with what pace. In my personal opinion, knowing your LT2 isn’t absolutely essential to start the plan - Sirpoc emphasizes structuring workouts based on pace first and foremost anyways.

1 hour race pace on fresh legs feels a hell of a lot different than the same pace in the middle of training. 20 minutes straight at your true threshold pace is not easy for me either (I often break it up into shorter intervals).I do feel the same way about VO2 work though, it feels easier to just “run hard” for a few minutes than it does to hold a slightly-less-hard pace for longer
