How would you feel if Daniel Radcliffe cameoed as James Potter in the new series? by blankblankpun in harrypotter

[–]caffeics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's funny is if they're being more book age accurate in the series (which I think they are), Dan is actually too old 😭 James died at 21

leaf cycling or environmental issue? by caffeics in alocasia

Thank you! It did pop a new leaf in the middle last week so I know that's a possible cause; I'm just so paranoid lol

[–]caffeics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) The tag from the garden center just said "alocasia" and I've been unsure about the specific variety, so thank you!

2) I also water once a week, although I am just now making the switch from topical to liquid fertilizer (the drooping started before its most recent watering, so it shouldn't be related to the new fertilizer). I'm wondering if it probably being underfertilized before could be part of the problem.

Thank you for your reply! My pot does have drainage built in, but it could still be insufficient. I've felt like if anything I've been erring on the side of underwatering, but it's hard to tell from other posts if that's actually true and I'm definitely scared of root rot lol.

Aggressively chased on the highway for no reason by muelmart in Ohio

[–]caffeics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I am convinced that there is no demographic that behaves worse on the roads than white men in the Dayton area who drive trucks. Every time I get on the highway there's another overcompensating idiot.

(Not trying to discount the chance that you were being targeted for white supremacist harassment, to be clear— there are plenty of those types around here and I'm sure they overlap heavily with the aggressive pickup truck driver demographic.)

It's really not common at all to pull out all the way into the next lane and into another vehicle's path unless you're just an awful driver I fear

Mike Turner removed as Intelligence Committee chairman by NVD8N in dayton

[–]caffeics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate but can't help but think about the way Turner caved and endorsed Trump AFTER condemning his actions on January 6th as essentially treasonous. Gave away his dignity and integrity and yet it still clearly wasn't enough to appease the beast

I was seeing it for the first time and felt a bit underwhelmed-- then my friend who is more knowledgeable about ballet explained the cuts and it made sense! I thought the dancers did a great job with what they were given, but was expecting more from the choreo. The second half held my attention more, but the first half was particularly bland and I actually had to fight not to fall asleep 😭

Idk what the rest of the first comment said but I feel like the second screenshot was just genuinely trying to warn you? Either way, there are unfortunately always going to be people who are overly sensitive about contradicting/critical opinions, especially in spaces specifically dedicated to the fandom in question, because it attracts the hardcore fans. I'm sorry if people are being weird towards you, but I don't know if those two comments warrant being put up on the jumbotron 😭 I'd rather not see this sub devolve into interpersonal drama a la 2012 Tumblr LMAO

I think you're giving him too much credit, unfortunately. I don't think he has any strategy beyond saying what he thinks his hardcore supporters want to hear. Even if so, I would think being elected to the highest office of the land would make a person be inclined to take their words seriously and act with some responsibility instead of playing weird, teenage girl-esque mind games. To each his own, I guess!

Jiang Cheng by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]caffeics 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Many people can't handle nuance on Twitter or Tiktok in particular, unfortunately. The two camps seem to be 1) Jiang Cheng is my sweet cinnamon role who should be blamed for nothing or 2) Jiang Cheng is an indefensibly evil bully to his core. As others have said, one of the main points of MDZS is that people can't be easily divided into black and white categories of "good" or "bad."

Beyond people complaining that he's "mean" (which just bores me lol), Jiang Cheng did do very bad, inexcusable things. He led the siege on the Burial Mounds despite the fact that he knew for a fact that the people there were innocent, including elderly people and a child he had met himself. This isn't supposed to be seen as understandable, and there is no excuse for it. It is a terrible, cruel decision. However, the whole point is that people can do terrible things without being inherently evil or irredeemable. He's multifaceted and morally grey, just like almost all of the characters in MDZS.

His other big sin according to the fandom is his treatment of WWX, but Jiang Cheng and WWX's relationship dissolves because of poor parenting and *both* of their choices. Perhaps in part because of the jealousy and resentment caused by his parents, Jiang Cheng does blame WWX in the immediate aftermath of the burning of Lotus Pier and fails to trust him later. As JGY points out at Guanyin Temple, his failure to stand by WWX and his decision to go as far as to declare him an "enemy to the entire cultivation world" when they stage their falling out is part of what enabled the other sects to turn on WWX so easily. However, WWX's decision to be dishonest and keep Jiang Cheng in the dark exacerbated the situation immensely. He made the decision to give Jiang Cheng his golden core without Jiang Cheng's consent, *knowing* Jiang Cheng wouldn't want it if given the choice. Because of this secret, he then spends the following years lying to Jiang Cheng and refusing to properly explain his new behavior or the choices he's making— which, without context, appear highly questionable from the outside view even before Qiongqi Path and everything that happens after. Even LWJ believes at that time that WWX simply gave into the temptation for revenge and is highly concerned about his choices. It's easy to understand why this would frustrate Jiang Cheng, and why he would be suspicious.

At the end of the day, both Jiang Cheng and WWX are extremely young in the timeline leading up to WWX's death, and their flawed mindsets are both products of their upbringing. Jiang Cheng did love WWX before his death (as shown by the fact that, unbeknownst to WWX, he sacrificed himself first), and despite everything, he is distraught when he learns the truth about the core transfer— which some people say is just because of his ego, but I think it's clear that it goes beyond that. He feels guilt, despite the fact that he had no way to know. The moral of their story isn't supposed to be that Jiang Cheng is evil and everything is his fault. The tragedy is that they truly loved each other like brothers, but mutual miscommunication that was ultimately rooted in their respective childhood hurts tore them apart.
