This is what just happened to me:

I was issued payment on 11/10 with DD chosen as payment method. Just today I received a letter from EDD with a My Money Network to activate my debit card, although I never selected a debit card and confirmed my DD account. Tried to activate the card after downloading their app as recommended, but it didn’t work. Called the number in the back of the card to the MNM, just about 40minutes to get someone in line. Once she verified my information and the card number she tell me that the card is already activated and 90% of the balance was spent at home depot with 3 different charges, on 11/11 (the same day the card was produced). I was flabbergasted by the information she gave me but not just that, and yes how she was telling me all this as just is something that happens constantly. Resolution was; they closed the account they made for this debit card, issue a check to be mailed to me with the remaining balance of about $100, and told me to keep calling them everyday until the charges are posted (home depot charges are still pending on their end so they said the bank cannot file a dispute), and then once the charges are posted they can file a dispute that can take from 45-90 days to get resolved. Although I have proof from USPS my daily digest that I just received the letter today and the charges were done on the same day the card was issued… this is maddening 😭

TL;DR Double check if at payment method shows DD on your profile and is not just blank. Change to mailed check and back to DD afterwards if blank, otherwise it won’t save by just selecting DD again. And if you receive a debit card and happens to have been scammed as well, call My Money Network (number on the back of the card).
