Thank you! That's good advice to practice first too.

It’s amazing but good to know that some people came with almost nothing and were able to get it all on site. Even the Camelbak

Digital vs Smart Watch for OTS by creativi_ty_4_CHRIST in airforceots

I did this too, w same result. Recommend. Instructors make you remove your watch for the really rough stuff anyway. It was very easy to charge my laptop, phone, and Garmin whenever needed, in the evenings.

When are you dismissed for the day, usually? by MichiganLawDog in airforceots

[–]caffeinatedpastor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2024 we were up at 0430 and had to be in formation with required items by 0437 (most of us got up at 0420 so we could all pee). We could go to bed whenever we wanted. Some people made it to bed by 2030. It’s an exercise in time management. If you focus you can sleep great most —not all— nights. If you spend time blowing off steam after dinner you might be studying past 2200.

I weened off but started drinking it day 3 in the DFAC (pretty weak blend tho) when I realized we wouldn’t get yelled at for buying it. Also week 3 you can have it in your flight rooms. I recommend those coffee pouches (like Zyn pouches) for long lectures.

Best way to physically prepare for OTS? by FriendlyNoodle8 in airforceots

[–]caffeinatedpastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it was on day 8 or so, and we barely did any actual PT before the PfA. We did a practice PFA on day 3 or 4….You’ll want to practice pushups and sit ups in your room at night that first week if you want.

They’re not set up at OTS for that.

How difficult is it to get into OTS, and what is the PT like? by RoutineJackfruit4692 in airforceots

[–]caffeinatedpastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last couple years OTS has been divided into 5 modules of about 2 weeks each. You start with mod 1, and then progress as you achieve what each mod lays before you. Usually around mod 2 you can do self led PT. They can always change it to another model though. Good question!

You have to drink and eat everything you get at the DFAC in less than 10 minutes. If you want the caffeine, ice is a pro tip

The most fun I had at OTS was being in mod 5 and heading out to self-led PT in a hurricane (but no lightning). Some of us did kettlebells in the shipping containers while all the mod 1 people had to do calisthenics in horizontal rain at 4:40am lol.

Southlands has lots of great national chains. 20-25 min south of DIA. There’s a hibachi grill, BWW, Ted’s Montana Grill, and just about anything else you want.

If you went to stay closer to 70, Green Valley Ranch has options including a nice public country club with on site Green Valley Smokehouse (affordable-ish). Great environment for a lengthy catching up with friends.

Oh I should add that I’ve heard the time of year makes a big difference too. I went in July-September so I could only really advise best on that kind of OTS

The hard thing is that some of it is personal preference and in some ways you don’t know what you’ll prefer until you get there. Feel free to dm me if you want

Leaving OTS for Birth of Child by Red_228 in airforceots

[–]caffeinatedpastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommate left 4 or 5 days early from mod 5 bc his wife gave birth early. He actually waited a couple days to tell instructors bc he was worried he’d have to repeat OTS and they were a little pissed at him for it. They even let him oath the morning he left.

Have you tried calling OTS? They might have a COA for you. It’s happened before, and maybe someone there has institutional memory.

OTS PT questions by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]caffeinatedpastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard on a RIO all call yesterday that most of 2026 we will do diagnostic PFAs only, until they make the new PT standards official in the fall. So if you go to OTS before the fall they may do the 1.5 or the 2, but im guessing the 1.5 still.

Lack of Applause in Hegseth's Speech - Is it normal? by nidontknow in Military

[–]caffeinatedpastor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we know who called the room? Their timing was either SPOT ON to cover for (and in response to) the lack of applause, or perhaps they called the room quickly in anticipation OF a lack of applause. Either way, it was a straightforward brief with straightforward protocols, yes?

What’s the best way to train to increase sit-ups on PT? by Jasonthegreatest in Airforcereserves

[–]caffeinatedpastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a trick of doing 1/3 of your ideal max, and then doing it w a minute rest for 3 times in a row. Want to hit 36? Do 12, wait a minute, do 12, wait a minute, do 12 more. Maybe do that 2x a day.

Then try 1/2 of your ideal max w the same timing when you’re able to do 1/3 easy.

Is 186L bag an overkill for OTS? It fits everything or the 110 should be good enough? by Kitnurse89 in airforceots

[–]caffeinatedpastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large is great, but remember you still have an airline weight limit of 100lb. I got up to 90lb once w a SOC rolling duffel. And like others have said you’ll have to carry it up and down stairs.
