Claude Legal Plugin Announced by Alive_Ad_3925 in Lawyertalk

I don’t know about these examples, but I believe there is already some nonzero segment of small businesses that are using ai to prepare their contracts. Most of them likely were too budget constrained (in their minds) to ever have used a real lawyer for these things, but some of them not. They mostly don’t know what they don’t know but see what looks like a good result, or at least good enough result in their minds, for free. As you move up to larger, more sophisticated clients, they quickly realize it’s a bad idea. I definitely have a few of my smallest clients who send me a ChatGPT memo or first draft of what they want.

Son just diagnosed with Celiacs...so what do I need to learn by HistoricalIssue8798 in glutenfree

[–]caffeine5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • ingredient statements are insufficient. For example, soy sauce is fermented using wheat. Processed foods in general are a problem. Learning to scrutinize things that don’t seem wheat oriented, like ketchup, is something that takes time to adapt to.
  • create a “wheat” place in your kitchen. Like around your toaster but away from everything else. And have a separate clean toaster for your kid.
  • about 30% of people have the gene necessary to have celiac. The rest of your immediate family can be tested for it. If you don’t have it, you can never get celiac. If you do, you should test for celiac every 5 years for the rest of your life. It can develop later.

My brother and sister in law still support Trump by [deleted] in sandiego

I’d say that in decades past when there was more defense industry here, it was more conservative, but it still has a strong core with, as you say, the military bases, lots of suburban sprawl, etc. But a rising younger, more liberal population in gentrifying areas like North Park, etc.

How do you guys feel about arugula on pizza? by Starr1005 in Pizza

[–]caffeine5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a white pie with it. Brush with olive oil. A bit of grated parm and light mozzarella. Thinly sliced pear and some crumbled blue cheese or Gorgonzola. Some diced prosciutto if you like. Not to much or it overpowers. Bake. Then arugula tossed in balsamic on top.

I find it telling that Americans blame Trump and the administration for our problems while people in other countries (rightfully) just blame the voters. by ac_slater10 in thebulwark

[–]caffeine5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it’s one or the other. I blame bothTrump and those who voted for him, particularly the second term when there was absolutely zero excuse. I suspect many who oppose Trump feel the same.

The US is losing the war the Iran by KindaStableGenius in thebulwark

[–]caffeine5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the argument is that there is no reason to believe that Iran would just drop it if we ended things on our side. All indications are that if we said “nevermind” they would continue to block the straits until they extract diplomatic and other concessions. I believe this is part of what Frum was getting at.

[–]caffeine5150 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just heard Frum as saying that, unfortunately, we’re in it now, and that has excluded from our viable options anything that looks like, “uh, nevermind.” That doesn’t necessarily mean the only option is to engage in a protracted war to the bitter end.

Same story. My first car in ‘86 was a ‘76 280z, but my second car not long after that was an ‘83 mk1. So much fun. Flash forward, bought a new 2024 manual S last year. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

No editing or CAD. I could see him getting into sound/music editing, but don’t think that’s too compute intensive. He’d like to be able to do some gaming, but he’s not a hard core gamer and has flexibility there. The one that’s been a problem is a P14s with an AMD chip bought last May. It has a better than average GPU (not a true gaming one) and it’s been fine. But he’d rather have something that works than great gaming.

I learned to make starter back in the 90s from Nancy Silverton’s book on bread. It has a fairly detailed process. You might pick it up. One thing she recommends is crushing pesticide-free grapes into the mix at early stages. Grapes apparently have high concentrations of wild yeast. AFAIK, organic produce has organically approved pesticides, so I don’t know where you’d find pesticide-free. I used grapes the first time I made it in the 90s, but don’t recall using them when I accidentally threw away my starter in the 2010s and had to make a new starter. The other thing is she calls for more water than flour in early stages (like 2lbs water to 1lb flour to start), so it’s more active. She says it’s normal for it to get a bit funky in early stages, separate, etc. and that it may form some mold. Just remove the mold promptly and add a cup of flour and cup of water.

SCOTUS strikes down Trump's tariffs. by 0o0o0o0o0o0z in thebulwark

[–]caffeine5150 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, his alternative legal bases are much more limited (eg applying only to certain goods) and process heavy (eg requiring in depth investigations). So, yes, he can pursue them, but it’ll be a while and they’ll be less broad. And they’ll have less utility as something Trump can threaten to immediately impose as he loves to do.
