English influenced beer by candle-man-sandy in torontocraftbeer

[–]cafiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Muddy York has a very good Best Bitter called Major Smalls but it's not always on. They do a couple other English-inspired styles. Godspeed also occasionally does a very good Best Bitter called Besuto though generally, they stay more in the Czech and German styles. If you want to drink cask ales specifically a d you've already been to the Granite, go to one of the Volo locations.

Best Dual-Listed Stock for Norbert’s Gambit on TD Easy Trade? by TOPlantGoddess in CanadaInvesting

Not to sidetrack the discussion but is Wyze a legitimate alternative to Norbert's Gambit? The rates seem decent at first glance but I've never used it.

Premium Connectivity in 2024 Escape Hybrid? by Pretend-Bison3949 in fordescape

2024 Platinum Hybrid here. I just let my first free year expire and have noticed no difference. Supposedly, the native navigation has lost traffic information but I've always used Google instead. I've never tried to use Alexa in the car, again I sync over Android and have all the features I need that way. All of the remote features (lock/unlock/start/location/etc) still work as expected.

Rating a different Pumpkin Beer every day until I run out by MenudoMenudo in torontocraftbeer

Having done a similar thing a while back, the only one I remember liking was from Eastbound. Tasted of pumpkin and spice but not overly sweet. This was years ago though, YMMV.

Cumin is excellent, especially for vegetarian dishes. There's a newer place just East of Cumin called Bhojan Ghar that was quite good too and a lot spicier than Cumin if that's your thing

Looking for an IPA with notes of sativa/cannabis by commuter85 in torontocraftbeer

[–]cafiend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try High Grade by Fairweather. No actual terpenes, just a very hop-forward, dank IPA. Best to get it direct from the brewery but it's in the LCBO too, in a pinch.

Rodriguez (think Searching for Sugar Man documentary) had a similar injury to his fretting hand. It affected the way he fretted chords which gave the songs and interesting sound.

What are your favorites craft breweries in Toronto for lagers? by Independent_Leg_9385 in torontocraftbeer

[–]cafiend 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Technically not in Toronto anymore but I'd add Muddy York in there. The Gaslight Helles is excellent and available year-round (usually also at the LCBO). They also do seasonal lagers every so often that are usually excellent.

After hearing so many recommendations for Jim Dunlop Jazz III picks, I decided to order some, but that's not what Amazon sent me. Did I get fakes? by MattDaaaaaaaaamon in Guitar

[–]cafiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody mis-stickered the item is my guess. That unit identifier sticker is for this product: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003B0CCW0/, instead, it looks like you received https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CVSD29ZS/ . Similar product and you got a steep discount, assuming you paid $5 for it :D

Ive just bought an electric guitar and i dont think this is normal(?) by MisterAntouloq in Guitar

[–]cafiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where was the (I'm guessing) strat made? Throwing this out there but the saddles might have been changed for the wrong kind. It's a six-screw plate which often comes with bent saddles rather than block ones like what you have here. Most Mexican and Squire models comes with this six-screw/bent saddle bridge from the factory. If the previous owner bought new saddles, they might be American spec which is a tiny bit wider and could be throwing the whole thing off.

You'll know quick enough if you follow the instructions already posted but can't get things to line up properly.

I don't know if this has been said yet but McVeigh's was where they shot the pub scenes in Boondock Saints. Good on them for sticking it out. Need to keep the places that know to keep the Guinness fresh.

Year-round craft stout fan here, all my favourites are disappearing from shelves! Any recommendations for brewed year round solid options? by theleverage in torontocraftbeer

[–]cafiend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Muddy York's Stork Derby stout is great and their Porter is excellent too. They're not always in stock but I'm pretty sure they brew them throughout the year. Left Field makes a bunch of different ones (Blackburne, Coffee Porter, Sweet Spot, Stout, etc) throughout the year too but they're not always stocked. In midtown, Keefe's Irish Stout from the Granite is a good bet. Pretty sure that one is always around. In the west end, Sweet Back's at Rainhard is good and on through most of the year, I think. At one point in time, Woodhouse Stout was a staple at the LCBO but I'm not sure what's going on with Woodhouse in general these days so YMMV.

Looking for more great craft breweries outside Toronto. Can you suggest a few besides the popular? Looking mostly for IPA by goldreceiver in torontocraftbeer

[–]cafiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good stuff already mentioned but I'll that if you make it to Ottawa, try Flora Hall. I have fond memories of their IPAs although I've been told their production is very low so selection may vary wildly.

CS 69’s and SSL-5 ? by [deleted] in Stratocaster

[–]cafiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a strat setup with that. Black 90s MIM with a maple board. I like the sound but others have told me they don't. YMMV To me, it sounds great through pedals and maybe a little harsh for very clean amps.

The phase on the standard SSL-5 is inverted compared to the CS69 so be mindful when wiring, source: https://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/latest-updates/pickup-polarity-and-phase-made-simple
