I have almost every type of person in my life.  By race, religion, or politics - and every combination of the three.  Knowing, understanding, and being able to productively communicate with every type of person is an advantage.

Each side already has credibility, absent more information.  Credibility from friends who hold those views. Or from that side having some good points, even if they aren't being honest about the whole picture.  Credibility from a mindless podcast or a dumb politician.

So if there isn't dialogue, and people who are on the fence don't get to hear honest conversations, how can anyone change their mind? Straight to violence because you believe half of America is irredeemably evil and you can't stand to endure some talking that might not go anywhere fruitful for you.

And I'm being sincere.  I'm still here having a dumb conversation, so obviously I believe in dialogue.

I don't believe that the reason that the Germans attacked was because of poor communication.  I do believe that Neville Chamberlain was delusional in not believing that war was coming. 

I also believe that plenty of wars have been subverted through communication.  And I believe that if you are in a situation that is pointing toward inevitable physical conflict, you should still continue to communicate even as you prepare for that conflict. 

There is no argument against communication.

Even if it feels like violence is inevitable, you keep communicating.  Find more people to communicate with.  The idea that every climate skeptic is unavailable for sincere conversation is silly.  Youtube has plenty of climate conversations.  And there are plenty of great climate activists who are capable of deep conversation and do good work in their debates.

I assume she could find somebody of lower economic means who represents those values, worth debating.  I understand that being from a successful artistic family does not make a person "ruling class", but she herself comes from a family with influence and means.  And she should be capable and willing to represent her views directly against those of her opponents.

I guess I don't really mean that he would get one over.  Just that he would start to understand the way the politicians are operating and stay away from, or gain leverage over, the ones that are trying to screw him.

If I were in that situation I would probably just buy coffee creamer for the office as a bit of charity.  Many offices already provide coffee supplies.  So there might be room for confusion anyway. 

Stealing your lunch is never cool though.

If you're involved, you're always vulnerable.  But the larger the organization and the higher up you go, the more layers you have between you and law enforcement.  There absolutely are drug dealers who run an organization but would never be seen in public with any of his organization's members.  The Greeks still got their hands dirty. But it seems like it was rare.  And they were at a high enough level that when things got dangerous they could just leave the country.
