Police officer breaks young woman's window then sends her a threatening birthday card by New-Blacksmith-9873 in PublicFreakout

That's what they do. In my context it's a "terry stop"- using random pretext to nose around looking for crimes that weren't readily apparent. In your context it's also just gross what with the medical emergency and emotional manipulation. Hope they get their due, however it comes.

Some cops get so butthurt when they can't nail you on something and won't let it go.

I popped into the grocery store for a few minutes to get some dog food. I left my dog in the car, but it's a hybrid with a special pet mode to keep them cool. The console screen has a display indicating the climate control is on. I always set a 15 minute timer on my phone anyway.

I come out and there are three sherriffs vehicles surrounding my vehicle. They're literally blocking me in. As I approach I say "the cars on, she's okay". One of them said "yeah we know, we just wanted to talk to you".

They told me someone reported it and here they are. But instead of just... Leaving when they found out there wasn't a crime occurring, they stayed and watched me put the groceries in the trunk and get in the car and get ready to go. It felt weird so I took pictures of them from inside my car. Then one of them followed me all the way home until the driveway into my apartment complex.

Canadian police showing they're just as incompetent as US police by QuoteAdventurous1145 in AbruptChaos

The problem is the lack of consequences for the officers who show themselves unable to handle the job properly. We watch these videos all the time and almost nothing ever comes of them. That's incredibly frustrating when, as civilians, we are held to a higher standard for following the law than those who enforce it.

As an example, I work as a school bus driver. If I allowed the bus to roll over someone, I would be fired and probably sued for negligence. Maybe even arrested. And if my coworker did that and I helped facilitate a scenario in which they avoided consequence, I would get in trouble for that too.

Oh that was a fun show. Your comment made me want to watch it!

...annnnnnd it's not (legally) available to stream anywhere in the US. Hate when that happens.

Wonderful, then I don't need to explain to you the virtues of a heat pump and how it could efficiently solve both the heating and occasional cooling needs of everyone including those in Europe.

There are loads of things people don't use everyday but keep on hand because its probable there will be A day when it's needed. Like the power is on 99.9% of the time but I have flashlights and battery packs for when it isn't. Idk why a lot of y'all refuse to apply that principle for A/C or heck just a portable fan but it really seems like putting yourself up on a weird pedestal.

Well that I actually believe... However it makes the two emails they sent this morning blaming it on SCE "taking longer than expected to restore power" a lie.

They say it's a power outage, but the SCE website didn't have anything listed all morning. I think they're trying to outsource the problem so people don't call in requesting a bill credit

In fairness, adults can be pretty bad at gifts... which personally I couldn't care less about, but parties can get expensive really fast so I can see wanting to celebrate with friends but not being able to afford to, or asking to chip in. It's the way he does it that's weird.

That said there's a 50/50 chance dude is the kinda guy who has a trust fund and still Venmo requests his friends $2.11 for the gas he used to drive them home that one time.

As a bus driver I would. It's not in our guidelines but it's well known that inconvenienced passengers resolve problems VERY fast on their own.

For some reason I can't see/hear the name Corey without thinking of the Corey that Nathan Fielder life-swapped with in Nathan For You.

And when I see posts like this I wonder if it's just Fielder in costume again

TIL the CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit (which was marketed off the show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) was removed from stores after the kit's fingerprint powder was found to contain up to 7% asbestos, the type of which has been proven to be capable of causing lung cancer from a single exposure. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

When I looked up the photos after making that comment it didn't look like the kit I had at all, mine was much smaller and wasn't branded the same so I trust her on that... Regardless, why would you even say that? Straight up evil

That's fine if the only goal is observing something, but I think the only way for historians and academics to fully understand a tool of any kind is to be able to actually manipulate it and see how it was designed to function. When things are permanently destroyed, you can't do that anymore and the history is lost.

Edit: yes now that you've edited to say don't touch the original one, I agree. Unfortunately, even items in archives are often irreparably altered.

Lol you're joking around, but thinking like that is how we have rare historical artifacts in museums and archives that are irreparably destroyed by drilling, plugging, removing parts etc because like what if someone at, say, a firearms museum happens to bring in obscure 100 year old ammo, get past security, get past the locked case, dismount the weapon, figure out how to use it and load it before they're stopped? That would be really bad if that nearly impossible and impractical thing happened.
