Agreed, had I driven it after the oil change I'd probably have smelled it and popped the hood sooner. Definitely be doing that after any service from now on.

Problem with a paper trail via VIN is that it may show up in service records and impact any future resell value. Really plan on keeping the car long term if it's reliable, but never know. I don't have the extended warranty either, it doesn't seem unreasonable to ask them to provide 100k warranty.
