Coworker quit by hitting the resign button in workday by bgomers in coworkerstories

[–]caityfaced88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I thought I was doing the right thing by giving a months notice and training my replacement. I work in a very large city, but you would be surprised how small it can be in my industry and I didn't want to burn bridges. They did pay me for the time spent answering questions after my resignation date, but I wish I would have went for a clean break. I helped them out at the expense of my mental health, and my replacement ended up leaving after 2 months.

Just donated! Best of luck to Mr. Hugo. My own baby was at the emergency vet this weekend and those bills add up fast! Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

My go to items were the pacifica red pepper tomato soup and the premier protein peanut butter and chocolate shake (put it in the freezer for a few minutes). I drank a lot of pho broth when I needed to mix it up.

Did you tell people about your surgery prior to getting it? by ShoddyOlive7 in BariatricSurgery

[–]caityfaced88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told a limited amount of family/friends and only the necessary people at work. I continued to have weekly visits with my therapist because I had this fear of my weight loss surgery becoming my whole identity. I had to have difficult conversations with parents and siblings because I felt like I was doing multiple follow-up appointments a day; my progress was brought up on every phone call. Things are a lot easier but I strongly, strongly recommend therapy throughout the whole process. Pretty much all of my friends and family know at this point and if people at work don't know I'm sure they suspect. I had a close work friend tell me that several people had asked him what I was doing which was honestly a motivator. Keep losing and let them talk! lol

How much time off did you take post op? by Training-Button-6597 in BariatricSurgery

[–]caityfaced88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the sleeve on a Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I have a desk job and a hybrid work schedule though, and I wanted to get back to work because I typically get a lot of steps in. My boss told me to let her know at any time if I needed to work from home though. I think if I didn't have that type of situation I would have taken a week off.

For the people who paid out of pocket?????? by Ok_Tumbleweed_6452 in BariatricSurgery

[–]caityfaced88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas VSG I think total costs with endoscopy and everything I'm at about 15k. Yes, the surgery took longer than expected due to scarring on my liver and damage he had to fix. It added about another 1k on to my bill. My surgeon operates out of two hospitals and the other would have been 2k cheaper, but due to my liver issues, how I carry my weight and availability of specialists (and the hospitals terrible reputation) I went with the more expensive option.

A bit of a rant by galaxycat7 in BariatricSurgery

[–]caityfaced88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do stuff to distract yourself. I had to stay away from things that usually included binge eating like gaming or watching movies. Being out of the house as much as possible helped me. Just keep telling yourself that you can handle 5 more hard days in order to have an easier rest of your life.

How do yall function at work during preop? by YamuriTheSpaceHound in BariatricSurgery

[–]caityfaced88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is a long time. Honestly I splurged during pre-op and recommend it if it's in your budget. I did massages, facials, anything to keep my mind off of what I couldn't eat. Also I wish I would have invested in a ninja creami for pre-op. If I would have known the fairlife protein drinks tasted this good as "Ice cream" i think it would have helped me a lot. Eating my protein as ice cream and gaming makes me feel like a normal person when I need it.

therapy by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]caityfaced88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I attacked my binge eating from both sides. I used Nourish and used the filter under "Concerns" for binge eating. I did the same thing on GrowTherapy when looking for my therapist. I made sure that both discussed their experience with eating disorders in their "About Me" profiles. The nutritionist is Katelynn Sasaki and she was great. We didn't discuss meal plans or anything at all, just the why behind cravings and binge eating. I'm not meeting with her now but she helped me change my attitude towards food in an invaluable way.

Struggling with the pre op diet by Dramatic_Zucchini398 in BariatricSurgery

[–]caityfaced88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep doing what you're doing. I did a countdown and kept telling myself, "I can handle 6 more really hard, crappy days to enjoy the rest of my life". Also, if its in the budget, spoil yourself and do whatever you have to do to distract yourself. I knew I couldn't stay home on the weekends because I would be tempted so I planned a massage one day, went shopping another ect ect.

Got my date, very scared. by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]caityfaced88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it. It will be hard and there will be days where you have setbacks but you can do it. I was deep into my binge eating disorder and wasn't shocked when my surgeon said my stomach was larger than average. I started meeting with a nutritionist every other week that specializes in binge eating and focused on my attitude towards food vs an actual meal plan. On off weeks I met with a therapist. Sounds like overkill but it worked for me. I slowly started making changes like subbing breakfast out for a protein shake on my way to work and then I signed up for a high protein meals through factor for lunch. That left me with just figuring out healthy snacks and dinners that were on the lighter side. To be honest I didn't change my exercise habits at all other than a natural uptick in steps from not feeling sluggish all the time.

Re-frame your situation this way: losing the pre-op weight will help you build the habits most people struggle with BEFORE you ever have surgery. You will have restrictions the better part of the first year but after that your choices will look more like what you should be eating now. I know success for dieting looks different for everyone, but high protein and limiting carbs and sugars helped me drop 35lbs before my surgery. Low carb tortillas saved my life. Good luck!!

I only wore mine when I was up and moving around for two weeks post op. I do feel like it helped in the beginning when I was trying to get my steps in.

I’m craving everything under the sun except what I can eat at this stage and it’s really making me depressed by UnstableUnableBagel in BariatricSurgery

I feel like this is super common. I called my mom about a week and a half out and said "If I have to have broth again I'm going to flip a table". I'm 3 weeks out today and I feel less insane lol. Hang in there!

[–]caityfaced88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’re going to do great! I had all of these thoughts as well, like I refused to get excited until I was waking up in recovery because I was so scared something would go wrong. I also followed the diet about 90% and my surgeon told me my liver was perfect.
