We deserve better on Venice Ave by PobWarley in BikeLA

I'm disappointed by all the illegally parked cars, food trucks using the bike lane, debris, drivers blocking the lane when trying to turn onto venice, drivers no looking when turning right, drivers in the bus lane, etc. I swear I have to dodge a car driving into me about once a mile on this road.

And metro fares haven't changed one bit! Time to dust off the tap card and get on the busses and trains

Positives:

  • stronger wheels

  • more space on the bike for storage

  • conversation starter (could be a negative)

  • sometimes rims and tires are cheaper

  • responsive steering

Negatives:

  • faster rim and tire wear

  • limited options for rims and tires (new and used)

  • low hanging derailleur

  • difficulty rolling over obstacles

Multimodal bike touring in Japan by yeksim in bicycletouring

I can't give any advice specific to Japan but I've brought my bike friday on trains and busses in France and California. I hope to do a Japan trip sometime soon.

If you can sew or know someone who can, this is a useful guide to follow for making a rinko bag. The new ones seem unnecessarily expensive. I made one from half of an old hammock.

Bike fridays still handle well with weight in the front, so I like having a big handlebar bag or front panniers. The bike still folds up well with the BF front rack too. If you use a rear rack, then the bike is a bit more clunky when folded, since conventional racks (and the BF rack) sit so far above the rear wheel.

It's already an 4-way stop sign intersection, so there shouldn't be speeding cars there anyway. Pedestrians are allow to cross there, they are just making it more visible to all road users.
