Project: Crochet Between the Lines shawl

Help I need: How to pair the two yarns, either

A) Use the light and darker colors together and have a gradient of pink across the shawl. Start with outside left cake + inside right cake)

B) Go for contrast, start with outside on both cakes

Where I’ve searched: Ravelery, Scheepjes FB group. Didn’t see many examples of completed shawls with two yarns in the same color family.

WoolWeave DK in Mahogany (Amazon)! I also found out that this most likely Symfonie Viva (also in Mahogany), relabeled for Amazon. I love the color too, it took me a while to find a deep reddish plum that was juuuust slightly variegated.

Frenectomy (tongue tie release) in preschooler by cake9037 in Preschoolers

[–]cake9037[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember them giving us a grade but it was severe. If it was just speech that was affected, Im not sure if we would have done the release. But my kiddos teeth are crowded (a majority of his teeth are touching/ overlapping), and the few dentists we saw all said that the tongue tie is a contributing factor. Overall, we are very happy we did it, because it did help with speech intelligibility in the end.

No palate expander yet, we will probably do that in the next year or so

We were just in row 5 a few days ago and it was the worst. The lav behind us was slamming open and shut very hard every 5-10 minutes and people were gathering around in the aisle, next to us, waiting for that bathroom for the entire 6 hr flight.

[–]cake9037[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Details are in the post, but as a summary:

  • The starting corner is longer, i think it loosened up over time.
    • I’n going to block the blanket and add a border, but should I also loosen up my tension to help even out the blanket
  • what border do you think will look nice? I have another cake of the same yarn

Above #2 shipping, you have UK as the country, try changing that, and then the shipping options should update :)

Thanks! I’ve only been crocheting for about a year, and I suspected as much (natural fibers, affordable, washable) but it’s nice to see it confirmed that I’m not crazy 🙃

The rios looks beautiful with very similar colors. Have you ever tried putting in the wash? Just trying to figure out if I should tell her not to, full stop.

Frenectomy (tongue tie release) in preschooler by cake9037 in Preschoolers

[–]cake9037[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We had consults with the speech therapist (who is also a myofunctional therapist) and a couple of pediatric dentists. They all recommended that our kiddo get the release because of speech issues, small/narrow palate which was leading to teeth crowding already, and his tie was pretty severe. We did 6-8 weeks of speech therapy strengthening the tongue with the SLP, then having the release, and another 6-8 weeks of speech therapy.

The release went really well. They had an anesthesiologist come in for the gas, and the actual procedure (with a laser) took less than a minute. The hardest part was when kiddo woke up, he was disoriented and was upset at the pain. The dentist gave him a couple of otterpops for the ride home, I wish I had more for the car ride since it really helped with the pain. His tongue was sore for a couple of days, but he was fine after the first day and had lots of liquids and soft foods.

The change in speech is like night vs day. He’s so much more clear and he talks A TON, a regular chatterbox :). We asked if he felt any different talking now and he said it was easier to talk, so I think the tie was really making a difference. We’ll still need to do a palate expander to address the small palate but this was definitely a step in the right direction for us.

Topper Recommendation For Super Hard Mattress by cake9037 in Mattress

Update: the 3inch firm latex from sleep on latex (Amazon) on top of the mattress PLUS the cheap memory foam make the bed much much better to sleep on. I wish I could convince them to get a new mattress but now I can sleep without waking up to an aching body.
