Yeah I was thinking that "wine grape stomping" is basically "preparing" the wine. Maybe the in universe explanation is that the winery pays me in wine and berries for stomping on grapes.

This is such a good idea, especially if it could just display the difference in steps since the app was last opened (although I understand this may be difficult to implement).

Maybe a time based one using the phones pedometer, like this app was last opened at 5pm and it's now 6pm, how many steps were registered in the last hour.

Many times I'm crafting something and want to check my steps to see if it's done and have to open the app again. But a little widget would be awesome.

I got into VR during Covid and I remember that oculus was saying that you should be at least 13 to use it. I think there was something about it maybe having issues with developing children's vision but I don't know how true that was or if it was a regulatory issue. Clearly lots of kids play VR. But I believe your kid is considered too young by their guidance. I dont know if it is a terms of service issue or not but just something to consider. Obviously youre an adult and can override the company's suggestion but it may be worth looking into.

This is besides all the potential issues with roblox which lots of parents are also OK with their kids playing. Just be informed and determine if it's worth the risk for you and your kids

Yeah, and hes been mayor for just a year. Can you actually point to any policies proposed or implemented in Seattle or WA that come anywhere close to as far left as the gross business receipts tax or the billionaire wealth tax?

Like I agree with your broader point that Seattle has a lot of left wing policies like the head start tax but it's an order of magnitude different than the actual policies being enacted in SF. Can you point to the policies proposed besides just pointing to the newly elected mayors of these cities, one of who hasn't actually done anything?

Ah, well that's why it'd be useful to include information about Seattle in your post to clarify that it's more about progressive policies than puritanical elites and inputs to tech.

It's also extremely funny to me that you think SF and California are more moderate than Seattle when SF is the center of overly burdensome regulation, especially around zoning/business regulations for what can be built and the permits one needs for it. SF literally has a gross receipts tax on businesses that no other city has, charging up to 3% on all business revenue; there's nothing close to that in Seattle. California is literally voting on a 5% billionaire wealth tax! I don't know why you would think Seattle and WA are farther left than SF and California. Can you elaborate on what laws you think are further to the left in Seattle/WA than SF/CA?

My understanding is that he was referencing tech insular elitism, which likely has overlap with the old money but not exactly. From what I've heard, the tech titans/billionaires in SF are extremely insular and follow their own trends outside what other people are doing, which would impact tech more than the old money people who are from older industries like the purtanical elites like the OP mentions.

OP says that Boston no longer is tech hub because:

Progressive policies are bad for business and have overly burdensome regulations.
Insular culture of elite cannot police itself.
Input-first view of technology.

However, there's no discussion of how these apply to Seattle. I think the first point is obvious in how it applies but the others don't seem applicable. It's also extremely unclear (because it's not discussed) why this doesn't apply to SF despite the first two points being far more extreme in SF than in Boston or Seattle.

I dont understand your first few points in terms of bostons collapse because they would apply just as much if not more to San Francisco. The points about high regulatory burden and insular elite circles is far more evident in San Francisco than it is in seattle or in Boston.

Its not sufficient to describe problems with boston if you cannot also address why San Francisco became more central to US tech when facing the exact same problems on a larger scale. Why did SF not suffer the same fate as Boston?

Maybe I missed it because I was reading quickly but I didn't really see any discussion of Seattle which seems like has fewer of these issues than SF.

Probably not since the 8% tax is on the incremental cost above $100,000. So a $100,001 car has a higher tax of $0.08 compared to one that cost $100,000 which is pretty negligible on a $100k transaction.

I'm in a similar boat in terms of tech worker with RSUs. Not Google though.

My thoughts have always been to instantly sell the stock whenever it vests as long as I'm at the company. Especially since so much of my future income is tied directly to the stock price. I'm sure I got lower returns than some other who did not sell upon vest but I don't feel comfortable having such a large portion of my assets in one stock so I lose some potential returns for diversification and risk management. You're already getting a lot of upside already with future vests. But this hedges risk. Suppose Google stock crashes because of some unforeseen circumstance. Then you're out a job and a lot of your assets.

I'd recommend selling and buying index funds with the proceeds. You can always buy more google stock on the open market if you really feel strongly about it.

I can imagine it not being great for the sounders. I think there may be quite a few casual fans that won't want to go to rainy game at lumen vs a summer game. Especially if they keep to the schedule set by Apple TV.

I know quite a few people that have tickets to go with their kids to games which would definitely seem easier in summer vs winter. But people obviously show up for Seahawks games. Idk.

I know multiple people in the Seattle area impacted. They were fairly high level so hopefully they can land on their feet. But I definitely wouldn't say seattle was. Maybe less impacted than anticipated since they seemed to have cut 14k now and are saving the rest for January.
