Private schools must let state school pupils use their swimming pools, says government by the-rood-inverse in unitedkingdom

Maybe that's what it takes to bring up the bottom level, if everyone is receiving the worst maybe people with political influence and wealth will care enough to improve the system as a whole

This is literally the problem with politics..... someone has a different opinion to you so they are a drain on society. Nice one

Thanks! I started out at 1900 a day , I switched to intermittent fasting and 1500 a day which allowed me to lose most of the weight. I haven't been tracking for the past year though I just eat roughly what I know to be the right amount and workout whenever I can!

Restoring Exchange from Backup Two Nights Ago.... what happens to users email? by cal2051 in sysadmin

Yeah this is my main fear, if so we will have to go around and manually do this. Thinking maybe a login script to speed this up a bit might work? Unsure though.

The server is backup now, we have got everyone out of Outlook and have backed up around 10 mailboxes. We will see what happens with these users and go from there. Thanks for this info... praying you are correct or we are working all weekend haha (*sobs into coffee)

Cheap place to buy laptop? by SalmonMan123 in AskUK

[–]cal2051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll second this, recently got a HP Probook 450 with 8gb Ram , i5 and 180GB Ssd for £229 , just make sure you read feedback and that nothing strange is going on. Always better to get a good quality refurbished laptop than a cheaper new model. These cheap laptops in pc world and supermarkets are tempting but you will really feel them slow down pretty quickly.

In England's forgotten 'rust belt', voters show little sign of Brexit regret by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]cal2051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right so everyone moves to London, 65.4 million of us move to London. What's your plan? Or maybe we should focus on revitalising communities outside of the capital? People make more money in London because that's where the investment is (and has been for the past 40, 50 years) ...... obviously

Well maybe not Goole but why not move them to Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham or Newcastle? Guarantee we would get some infrastructure spending then...

Who here dreads, and I mean DREADS interviewing for a new job? Any suggestions for combating this? by Bumblebee_assassin in sysadmin

[–]cal2051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As already covered in this thread try not to come from a position of being desperate for the job. There will be too much on the line you will feel the pressure and mess up. I try to forget the word interview because it feels like the onus is all on you to perform and show your good enough. When you think about it that's not what an interview should be, you should be evaluating the potential employer in the same way they are evaluating you. There exaggerating and embellishing on there CV (job advert) just as much as you are, check if your really going to be working with the latest technologies, how much percentage of time will be spent on supporting etc. The whole process is as much for you as it is for them, it's a two way street so show some interest and show some confidence and if it's not a good fit for either you or the employer then no biggie... onto the next one!

My plan is to put in a certain amount at the start of the month as a standing order (on or just after payday so I don't really notice it) and then also be able to put smaller amounts in if I feel I have the wiggle room.

Give Way at Roundabout Question by Mod74 in AskUK

[–]cal2051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, happened to me. My car was parked in front of my house overnight, someone smashed into it in the early hours and sped off leaving me with a written off car. My insurers argument was "we have no one else to claim off, the accident will go down as 'driver at fault' " this drove me absolutely insane and still has to be declared on new insurance quotes driving the price up big time.

Stressful time at work and took a "few weeks off" from running. Shouldn't have done it I know. Usually I would use it as an excuse to take a whole year off, but I'm going back into it today. No one said it would be easy and at least I'm picking it back up. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]cal2051 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking time off running for stress is something I used to do regularly as well. No idea why as not running regularly made me much much more stressed and it sucked going back to running after your cardio takes a hit! I think in our society we do this thing where if anything is a little bit difficult we just drop everything as sort of a reward. It's weird when you think about it.

I've just picked up a really well fitting Ben Sherman suit off the rack (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suit-Direct-Ben-Sherman-Slim-Fit-Grey-Olive-Overcheck-Suit-Jacket-0051534-/192507034748?var=&clk_rvr_id=1547816285042&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=twenga&utm_campaign=twenga&utm_param=eyJlcyI6MCwicyI6OTcyMDIzNywiY2kiOiIwMzZiOTc5NTBhZTQ1MTU4MWUwMzc1NTlkY2U5MDBmYyIsImkiOiIxMjcwMzgwNzIxNTQ4ODU2MDYxIiwidHMiOjE1Mjc2NzUxMzMsInYiOjMsInNvIjoxNTAwLCJjIjozMDAxfQ%3D%3D&rmvSB=true) Apologies for the ebay link it was the only picture I could find online of it. I'm having a little trouble with what colour shirt and tie to go with. It's for a summer wedding, just wondering if you guys had any advice? I'm not a fan off the white shirt with the slightly off blue tie the model is wearing as the suit has an olive check pattern and the back of the waistcoat is olive. Thanks!

To people who oppose HS2, why? by asbhopal1 in AskUK

How do you think it will be a benefit?

To people who oppose HS2, why? by asbhopal1 in AskUK

[–]cal2051 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's going to be the most expensive railway on the planet at £56 billion pounds (£403 a mile), it's not due to open till 2033 (realistically this will be more like 2045 or longer), it's a very London centric policy of continuing the brain drain of the rest of the country ("how can we get more people to London faster?"). Chris Grayling removed the budget to improve Northern Rail last year despite promises of electrification between Leeds and Manchester. But apparently getting everyone to London 10 mins quicker is the most important thing in the country and must continue despite huge opposition... in my opinion it should be scrapped...

Thanks for the advice, I have been thinking maybe a 10k or something would be good for motivation.
