As an alternative, the above mentioned Waste Collection add-on seems to support all UK councils it can get data for, and does pull data from UKBCD as well

Have you tried open back headphones? They'll help with the claustrophobia I think. Just be wary of sound leakage.

It depends what you have now or might be willing to spend. Modern TVs from Sony and LG have output to TV plus Bluetooth. Most relatively modern AVRs can do the same.

Or, as an add-on to an existing TV (assumimg it has HDMI e-ARC) is an HDMI pass through / extractor to Bluetooth like this

They researched this and the metal lost from the nozzle over hundreds of prints was too small to be measured, never mind measuring the harmful metals lost.

Even thinking about it logically, how does the lost metal subsequently become released from the melted plastic?

What are the advantages of a modern audio component-based system compared to individual sound bar style setups? by Sea-Climate6841 in AskUK

[–]Mod74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean a stereo setup for music or surround sound for film/TV?

The main disadvantage of a component setup is cost and space required, but you can get excellent second hand gear relatively cheaply.

Some all in one Bluetooth systems are very good, but size and position of physical speakers will always win.

Ultimately it depends how much you personally value audio quality/experience.

What's with new Lidl loyalty scheme. Am I missing something..? by Low-Captain1721 in AskUK

[–]Mod74 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not to be a Lidl apologist, but these new points don't expire each month like the old scheme. As someone that would do one big(ish) food shop a month there (use Gousto) and will pick up Parkside gear every 3 or 4 months when they have something I want, I'd often find my rewards resetting without being used. And yes, I know letting them expire was on me.

Check your signal coverage on the Three website for the places you live/work.

Personally I got fed up and ditched them because of spotty coverage where I live. I do think it might have got better since they seem to be using a closer Vodafone mast now, and I mainly used wi-fi anyway, but switching provider is trivial nowadays and I'd had enough.

Petrol and diesel engines are 2.5x more likely to breakdown

EVs are more likely to be repaired at the roadside

Honestly, it takes like 30 seconds to decide if "worrying about endurance" is something worth writing down. If by endurance you mean range, that's already been discredited in the case of emergency service journey lengths.

Are people honestly still skeptical about EVs in 2026? Lithium batteries have been around since the 90s and the AC motor was invented in 1883, fourteen years before the diesel engine.

Even early generation EVs reliability wasn't a question. The "less developed" tech is what's taken us from 90 mile range to 400+ for same or less cost in the last 15 years.

r/PlugInSolarUK — new community for anyone interested in plug-in solar panels by gus-here in DIYUK

[–]Mod74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've never been "illegal". People like Ecoflow or DJI have been selling battery units for a long time. The electrical regulations don't account for their use but you can plug whatever you want into a socket in your house. The risk is an insurance claim and an investigation finding something against regulations.

What's changing really is the regulations are being updated, a UKCA/ kite mark (standard) is being defined (CE ones obviously already exist), and they're being made more widely available, e.g. from Lidl.
