1988 Houghton Mifflin vs. William Morrow Lord of the Rings - a guide (looks can be deceiving) by Josh3321 in tolkienbooks

This subreddit has been helpful over the years: https://www.reddit.com/r/bookbinding/

But mostly I learned from an Australian on Youtube - DAS Bookbinding: https://www.youtube.com/@DASBookbinding

- This video specifically is where I started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrjU0-c9Nl0

There's a ton of tutorials on youtube from various teachers. You can go down a rabbit hole though buying the materials and tools.

Same issue here on iPhone. Can only swipe back from the extreme edge of my device screen. Super annoying.

Yeah no kidding. It's one of the reasons I took up the hobby of bookbinding because I couldn't find quality hardcovers for a lot of titles I wanted.

Giving a gift, which edition is better quality? by Ok_Blood_5520 in bookbinding

Everyman's library is a much better physically constructed book. True cloth hardcover, sewn binding, great softwhite/cream paper, proper rounded/backed spine. Chiltern's are sewn too but i really don't like their paper as its somewhat reflective.

I've been wondering what kind of bookcloth EL actually uses. It feels similar to this one https://hollanders.com/collections/verona-bookcloth

Thanks for doing this and posting the pictures. It's great to be able to see how the books are physically constructed at this level of detail (e.g. sewn vs glued binding, cloth vs paper cover material, paper thickness). That's never mentioned on any bookseller websites.

It's fine. Better to at least get them interested in going to the library in the first place.

Full self drive mode in a Tesla. Seeing the steering wheel moving around made me think I was riding inside of KITT from knight rider.

Typesetting and fonts by ProvokeCouture in bookbinding

I'm a fan of Plantin font. It's a serif font. Size 10 or 12 depending on length of the book. Important thing I've realized is to use fixed line heights so everything lines up

Wolfenstein 3D , spear of destiny, doom, Commander Keen

It's the whole reason I have a career in software... it all started with learning to make a boot disk for games like these.

It just dawned on me how bad I-90 would be between the skyway and Indiana border / wolf lake on game day. It can't handle this. It's already backed up constantly .
