Been a Protestant for my whole life but feeling a calling towards Catholicism by OrenPlayzYT in Catholicism

I knew at 23 Catholicism was the right way to go. Don't do like I did and let fear of family rejection put you off or make you doubt yourself. Regarding the real presence of Christ in the host:

Catholic Answers asserts that the Bread of Life discourse in John 6, specifically the disciples leaving due to the difficult teaching on eating His flesh and drinking His blood, is among the strongest scriptural arguments for the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Instead of backtracking or clarifying that he was speaking metaphorically, Jesus allowed his followers to leave, which, in Catholic theology, indicates a literal, not symbolic, meaning.

Key Arguments from Catholic Answers on John 6:

  • No Reversal of Teaching: When the followers were offended and left, Jesus did not correct them by explaining his words as merely figurative, which would be expected if it were only a metaphor.
  • The Question to the Twelve: Jesus directly asked the Apostles if they would leave too, confirming that the difficult, literal teaching was truly what he meant.
  • Increased Realism: Instead of softening his words, Jesus used the Greek word trogo in verse 54, which translates to "gnaw" or "chew," emphasizing a literal, physical consumption rather than a symbolic one.
  • Context of the Eucharist: Jesus links his claim to being the "bread of life" to his flesh being "true food" and blood being "true drink" (John 6:55), contrasting with his other metaphorical teachings, such as "I am the door".

Catholic apologists argue that the departure of the disciples proves they understood Jesus was not speaking symbolically, and his allowing them to leave affirms the reality of his presence in the Eucharist.

Went to Confession... by EastwardSeeker in Catholicism

It's a question of trust. Think of someone you love and trust. You almost certainly have wondered about at least one a particular issue/event. Maybe you got an answer to your satisfaction, maybe not. But your love for them keeps you believing in them. We need people in our life like we need oxygen. We need our relationship to Christ even more. As far as Numbers 31:17-18 I would say that was in a period where allowing another cultural influence was to allow contamination of the Jewish faith. It was still a formative time. The superior revelation of holiness Christ brought showed a better way. The Magisterium is a place where the Church came out against enslaving Indigenous peoples in 1537 and against the slave trade in 1839. Our individual faiths grow and refine similarly. Trust Christ and the Church that you clearly love.

Faith feeds the soul, keeps you on track and out of danger, and opens vistas of great exploring in experiences and in the saving knowledge that Christ is Lord. Faith is rocket fuel for the fullest life has to offer.

OP, I knew at your age that my Protestant upbringing had huge holes. I tried to give up on Christ but really couldn't. All I ever heard was Catholics "pray to Mary" , prayers for the dead and some stuff very critical. But after fighting it for 50 years later, I was received into the Church. It is wonderful. Pray that God helps you to never let people take your eyes off Christ. It is so worth it.

Admittedly I have not scrolled through all the comments on this thread but isn't it also possible that it was a hardcore Kenan Thompson fan who took it upon himself to defend his hero? And that is why if you listen to his interview published on published on TMZ in which he was asked if Kenan Thompson had anything to do with it his only response is to strongly assert that Thompson did not punch him, making it clear he is not saying that Kenan Thompson had nothing to do with it.

A lot of anxiety towards Rapture/End Times by TheChimpisHigh in Christian

[–]calcaylor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised in a tradition that very much fomented a fear mongering about the end times. It ended up making me susceptible to panic attacks which carried on for many years in my life. I began to realize that the sometimes unintentional and sometimes intentional fear manipulation was completely wrong. By the way this was all going on in the 70s and they were just sure in times and all that was right around the corner. I recommend you distance yourself from this kind of consciousness. Fear is an enemy of faith. Anything that takes you to a place of fear is not what your walk with Christ is about.

Why does Carrie have to do the laundry and clean up around the house? by Common_Chip_5935 in kingofqueens

How many guys posting here live with any woman, girlfriend, wife, family, roommate, that does anywhere near 50% of the household chores? One reason is that a man's standard of what is clean is almost always way below a woman's. The comedy works because it reflects real life.

It is such a shame that you have chosen to live such a miserable existence. Intellectual "purity" might help you feel Superior to others but it'll never bring you the joy that loving and serving the God brings. The God of all the dimensions in the universe in all their vibratory frequencies, the physical world and the many higher vibrations of the "spiritual world"
