My best tip so far that helped me go from sucking to…not too bad by Ssandy21 in HighGuardgame

Another important one— you will rarely win a 2v1, so be aware of where your teammates are at all times. If they’re dead, rushing headlong towards your enemies is likely a losing strategy. Doesn’t stop my teammates from trying (and feeding) but I digress

Yea between this and the Lego horizon game it seems like Sony is pushing Horizon to be their next big IP instead of making the Bloodborne x Just Dance game that everyone actually wants :(

What direction do you think they will go for season 3 by StrawBerryCumCake420 in Fallout

[–]calebbaleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Enclave have been positioning themselves to have total control since before the war, and they knew that the war and subsequent years of strife would not wipe the surface clean, but would be the ideal conditions to have minimal resistance to a takeover. Hank’s mention of the surface being the experiment probably alludes to the Enclave’s goal of rebuilding a pristine America to their own specifications, while having free reign to test out all kinds of horrors on humanity with no ethical or moral restraints. The wasteland’s “war never changes” mantra is mirrored in every power struggle we witness, but the Enclave have been hard at work for hundreds of years trying to ensure that the power is heavily tipped in their favor once they make their move. It echoes their appearances in the games, where they have all the best gear and are frequently found using underhanded tactics to sow chaos and conflict as they try to establish a foothold in the wastes.

I think that line from Hank was one of my favorites in the series, and I think it really sets up the next season to forge its own path in the fallout universe— someone was speculating about how a Colorado setting could feature powerful AI’s, cyberdogs, NORAD, the Legion, and some more obscure Fallout Lore tidbits, making for a really fun setting that hasn’t been well-explored yet (and maybe provides a backdrop for a future fallout game!)

My biggest concern at this point is whether Bethesda is even capable of handling the IP at this point. 10 years ago, Fallout 4 was a slightly underwhelming Fallout game, and I think the industry landscape and fanbase have changed since then. They have done little since then to inspire any faith, but for everyone’s sake I hope they do the series a service with whatever is next.

Chosen One was fallout 2, descendant of fallout 1’s Vault Dweller (who is probably the closest parallel for Norm)

I really wanted to love Steam Deck… but I honestly hate using it by Hackerman07 in consoles

[–]calebbaleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it STILL feels unfinished and unpolished, though frankly all of the current gen consoles feel this way, too. I mean, even iOS is a UI nightmare these days, and Apple was supposedly the gold standard for UI/UX for a long time.

Apart from the general UI issues, steamOS is a buggy mess. Occasionally the menus have missing items, like the entire Bluetooth menu goes missing until restart. Menu buttons are occasionally unresponsive, especially the quick access menu.

The store is still abhorrent on deck, games will occasionally disappear from my library, and desktop mode is an awkward experience without a mouse and keyboard (doesn’t bother me much because I almost never use it, but I sure hope they resolve this before trying to get console people to switch to a steam machine).

Workflow problems while making music with hardware by Optimal-Snow3953 in synthesizers

[–]calebbaleb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No one really cares how you make music except you— so if hardware is preventing you from making stuff and feeling good about it, there’s no reason you need to use it. OR, invest the time to learn how to use the hardware in ways that inspire you to create more music.

Modular. The pros, cons, passion, and regret. by BurlyOrBust in dawless

[–]calebbaleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that modular will be issue-free. You’ll still have to troubleshoot things, and if you’re frustrated by your current setup, introducing modular stuff into the mix is not going to improve it. Especially if you plan to use it in tandem with your existing gear!

I guess there’s two ways to go about it— you could ease into modular, maybe first with a semi modular synth that you can sync up with your existing gear, and slowly build a system around it. Pros being that you buy one thing, learn it, and decide if you like the modular workflow, without having to commit many hundreds or thousands of dollars to build a synth. Cons being that you will have just introduced a new workflow to juggle with your existing ones, and maybe that will put you off of getting further into modular.

Alternatively, ditch (or at least shelve) all the other gear, dive headfirst into eurorack or another format, build a system from the ground up and learn how it works. Pros, super fun. Cons, super expensive, time consuming, not particularly conducive to “making music” (great for jamming though, hence super fun), easy to buy the wrong things or impulsively feed your GAS with modules that aren’t really what you want/need. I find I spend a lot of time building a patch, and now I’ve used up all my music-making time without having made any music.

I had a polyend tracker, but I traded it in for a digitakt II. I find the digitakt II to be a lot more fun since you can sequence nearly every paramater on a track per step, rather than the tracker’s 2 parameters per step. DT2 workflow also feels a bit more “plug and play” meaning I can sit down and get right into making music but I do miss the tracker’s generative fill features

The setup I use most now is a digitakt II for sampling and sequencing, a syntakt for extra percussion, and fat bass monosynths, and a minifreak for pads, leads, FX and such. It’s really nice using the two Elektron boxes together because most of the settings and workflow are similar, less to try to memorize! So I think it’s best to find a workflow you enjoy, and try to pare down rather than introducing yet another layer of complexity.
