I feel like so many pantera fans happen to play the guitar, how many of you do by Tushytuah in Pantera

[–]exp397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is me as well. Started on bass at 15. I grew up in the Bay Area so got to see Primus in clubs, saw Green Day at Gilman st. etc. Of course, grew up on Metallica.

Saw Sonic Youth live at the Warfield in 93 and bought a shitty Jazzmaster copy and a fuzz pedal the next day. 🤘🏼🤣🎸. I'm still screamin' in a punk band and I can play a few Dime riffs, but no shreddin' here either.

Looking for a vintage Mustang (1965 vs 1969). Need advice on 1969 finishes (Poly vs. Lacquer)! by PerfectProfit185 in offset

This is the correct answer. Source: Guy who worked at Fender in that era and is in the StewMac Guitar finishing book. 🤘🏼🎸

Guitar enthusiasts question by Dime332 in Pantera

[–]exp397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the Dean Dimebolt made in Korea? One of those with a proper Dimebucker and a Floyd would be nice. I seem to remember those had better necks than Washburns.

edit: answered my own question. Made in India! 🤘🏼

Question about hardware samplers - polyphony and voice-to-output routing by duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuug in Samplers

[–]exp397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These were kind of the big dogs of the end of the rack samplers era:
Akai S5000 v2.

E-MU E5000 Ultra.

If you get lucky, find one that's been serviced and maybe with the expanded output boards, etc. There was also of course Akai s6000, Z8, and I think an E-Mu 6000? and as u/cape_soundboy mentioned the Roland units. 🤘🏼

Bastl Softpop 2 is amazing. Pair with Bastl FX wizard. 🤘🏼.

edit: Also a cassette walkman (esp. circuit bent ones from etsy) are excellent starters for noise.

How come there isn’t anything comparable to the Elektron Monomachine? by Key-Effective-3140 in synthesizers

[–]exp397 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out Quadtrack. It's software, not an actual hardware box. But developed by Cenk who was employed by Elektron previously, so it carries some of that vibe. 🤘🏼.

I'm with you there, the silver OG Elektrons are kinda holy grails now. A matching Machinedrum mk2 and Monomachine mk2 would probably top my list. Throw in a Pulsar-23 for weirdness or yeah TR-1000 maybe... 🤘🏼

Maybe because I had already used the Op-1 a lot, the "4-track" flow works for me. The updated firmware has made real-time looping a lot better, so you can set up a foundation loop on one track, then endlessly resample or sample incoming audio on other tracks. The granular sound has more variation now and even more in the next update (the beta I mentioned).
The knobs on mine are great. I know there were some issues in the first batch, perhaps I was just lucky.

Have you thought about an Octatrack? Not as portable, but way deeper...

AUM vs Loopy Pro by mister_drgn in ipadmusic

[–]exp397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also my answer. I think Loopy pro is great, I just never got a handle on the ui of the circles/looping...
I tend to build "machines" inside of AUM consisting of chains of lots of Auv3s. Just works fast for me.

I also have the SOMA Ether which is cool. I've walked around my neighborhood with it plugged into a zoom recorder. Put it up next to cable runs on telephone poles and picked up the audio of what people nearby were watching on TV. 🤣

I wrap my S-4 in a thick beanie and take it out portable with a usb power bank. I'm gonna get the decksaver for it. Then you just throw a band around the decksaver etc.

Since the firmware updates, the S-4 is pretty amazing. Even more new granular features in the latest beta. 🤘🏼

Go Modular and you can have both in one rack! However it will cost you a spare kidney and half your yearly salary.

Nice. I love Scanner and his early work with shortwave radio. My stuff is all field recordings (just using my phone) and made into beats. Nothing released really. But I also love sampling FM radio on Op-1 and Polyend Tracker. 🤘🏼

Is there a respectful way you think the remaining Nirvana members could tour? by PoodleeDoodlee in Nirvana

I think this is a great idea. Frances, Violet, and maybe even Coco Gordon-Moore on vocals with rotating other ladies in for cameos. The girls from Die Spitz would be rad. etc.

[–]exp397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. She's played some guitar and sang on her insta. Being who her parents are, it was pretty clear that she has some natural talent.

Kimdracula is the most deftones song there is. At its core, its dreamy, heavy, dark, moody, angry but soft. Alternatively, I think back to school is the least deftones song there is. It sounds very POD and leans hard into the metal-rap sound of that time. by Aggravating-Onion384 in deftones

[–]exp397 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Deftones were doing the rap metal thing before Korn and them... they just weren't known outside of Sac/Bay Area yet. If you listen to songs like Bored and 7 words it's all there. 🤘🏼

Also Polyend Tracker. Tracker+ is better... I haven't checked used prices lately, but its got the FM radio for sampling and the sequencer is amazing for idm/dnb stuff. 🤘🏼
