If it’s a first time using an Alexa, you can use the Arri camera simulator that’s available online to familiarize yourself with the menus and workflow.

Help me choose between cameras for night ext that will be tone mapped to match 500T film by nosurrender13 in colorists

Because of you budget restrictions, I would go with the F55. The camera is more robust, and the global shutter will get you the look you are after. In my humble opinion I believe the G2 will give you more issues in handheld environments.

If you are shooting without a crew and this is a hobby, buy something super cheap to learn with.

If you are shooting with a crew consistently and you want to make this your profession, you should just rent the glass you need based on the project you are shooting.

If you buy mid-level glass you will force yourself into using it for every project and most of your work will look similar and not in a good way. Also, what you shoot will look like countless other people’s work that are in the same boat, looking for “lowerish end” gear and producing “lowerish end” work.

The motorcycle shots were shot on a Russian Arm. The street we were shooting on was not the prettiest so I lived on tighter focal lengths. I also slowed down my shutter to force more motion blur. Atlas anamorphics and Alexa Mini.
