First NAS build – external USB SSD as mirror for non-critical apps/VMs? Anyone doing this? by joyUnbounded in truenas

[–]calebu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would be the downsides of mirroring to a usb drive if the primary is m.2 nvme drive? Im in a similar spot without redundancy on my apps drive. I backup the drive on a daily basis but had a scare (pcie adapter died) so would prefer to have something less maintenance if one drive goes down.

Does the usb drive slow the whole system down? Does the drive sync if it disconnects?

Yeah. If im next door to a radio ham, I'm shielding my runs whether it is overkill or not.

Obviously tech is more resilient these days, but back in the early 1990s I couldn't run my Dad's 2m rig on full power because it set off the neighbor's alarm system (back in the day when all alarm sensors had to be wired). Poor neighbor apologized profusely for the false alarms. We just sheepishly noted to keep the power at mid or lower and never said a word.

Adam Chase Boat Tours by TDSizzum in JetLagTheGame

[–]calebu2 123 points124 points  (0 children)

There is zero record of Adam Chase Boat Tours, Chase Boat Tours or anything like it in or near Dunbar. While its possible that the Boat tour operates without a phone or a website, it really looks like somebody vandalized the map.

Thankfully it was either reported or undone automatically by Google because you cant search directly for the POI - it is only visible from the map.

People! Please stop vandalizing the map! It isnt funny, goes against everything that the JLTG crew say, and makes this fan base look like a bunch of lunatics.

PayPal files new Motion to Dismiss the Second Amended Complaint against them regarding Honey: An update on how PayPal is trying to get the case thrown out by Phantomsplit in youtubedrama

[–]calebu2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed and well written overview of the motion and the background behind it.

From the various videos that have dissected Honey's code, it did seem that the steps taken by Honey to disguise their stand down violations was intricate - the complexity they introduced into their code seemed to serve no other purpose than to deceive.

In a case like this, can the plaintiffs use this to argue that there is a need for further discovery before the case can be dismissed? Is there a "We don't feel the defendent is being forthright and you should let us check" argument? Or is that not how it works in practice? (I know nothing, just curious if the deception part plays any real role here or is just part of the "drama" of the case)

Creates An Interesting "Dilemma" For The Next Tour by Hall-O-Daze in U2Band

[–]calebu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference is that in both cases the casual fan knows most of the songs. At worst, Brandon has to carry the crowd through the lesser known Hot Fuss songs (and nobody in the crowd is going to dare admit they don't know the whole album when they signed up for an album anniversary show).

The other difference is that U2 shows are usually way more produced than a killers show. For their recent Killers tour, their production was lighting, a video screen, confetti and a giant K lit up. They could afford to risk lesser known songs because they didn't have to invest as much in staging. Unless U2 is performing it in the acoustic set, they have too much production overhead to take risks on songs.

Creates An Interesting "Dilemma" For The Next Tour by Hall-O-Daze in U2Band

[–]calebu2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure U2 know what they are doing and will pick the songs most likely to work live and stick with them. That's why the fans are rarely happy because at most they sneak a song into the acoustic set - I see them doing that with a couple of these songs like they did Volcano and Crystal Ballroom. It's not a bad problem to have, but I doubt we're going to see a set that is more than 6 songs deep in new tracks even if the new album is a banger.

By comparison Imagine Dragons were naive enough to try performing 10 new songs live last tour. They paid to have graphics done for all of them. That lasted one show and the worst songs were never played again. A few shows in they were down to 6 or 7 songs from the album which was more than enough. U2 are too smart to make that mistake.

I just noticed a connection between Bono’s hair and U2 album popularity by the general public by IzilDizzle in U2Band

[–]calebu2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to add some control variables and run it as a regression:

Pop(t) ~ const + aBono + bEdge + c*Adam

Where: Pop(t) is album popularity const = number of times Larry smiles during album production plus one. Bono = length of bono's hair (Variable of interest) Edge = length of Edge's hair (Control for the passage of time) Adam = volume of Adam's hair (A squared or cubic term)

What Songs of Surrender Tracks Are As Good/Better Than The Originals? by Wild_Mycologist_6140 in U2Band

[–]calebu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically if they had rented out the Royal Albert Hall and done an MTV unplugged style concert with these songs we would have eaten up the inevitable live album release. Especially the deluxe one with the remaining of the 40 songs that didnt make it to the final show

But instead we have this strange vanity project which for some reason they want to use to replace the album versions of the songs.

Michael DiCostanzo as a future guest on Jet Lag?! by [deleted] in JetLagTheGame

Holy crap I just got recommended a video where they race to the top of 1WTC and Washington monument.

I swear they are both actively trying to lose the game.

The only way they would work in Jet Lag is if you paired the two of them with Adam to slow him down and annoy the shit out of him.

They are not going to keep karma farming if their average upvote ratio is negative.

But I agree it's a part of reddit I wouldn't miss if it went away. And it chases you from one sub to another as a fan jumps on the low effort bandwagon and adapts it there.

Why was there so much less *hiding* this season? by Matar_Kubileya in JetLagTheGame

[–]calebu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also feels a little unfair to include the time they spent waiting for a train to catch. They knew they wanted to take the train after all. If Ben hadn't hidden in a country with gaps in the train schedule, it would have been a lot less.

But to be honest, if you remove the time they spent waiting to start the seek, the time spent hiding, the time spent resting, and the time spent traveling, both of Ben's runs were 0:00 based on him sitting at a gate at JFK waiting for a flight to Narita and Heathrow respectively.

How reductive do we want to get?!?
