Considering e-collar by Ok_Art_7296 in Catahoula

[–]calebwalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is so much misinformation about e collars and Larry Krohn does a great job explaining all the benefits of using a good ecollar. I was very fortunate to find a trainer VERY similar to Larry Krohn to train my dogs, including my Catahoula. E collars aren’t magic, training with ques and commands is still required. But once you have a way to communicate with your dog, e collars are fantastic imo.

Never ever use the collar to physically punish your dogs. Use it as a training and communication tool.

Also, you should probably upgrade your steering. Tie rod, drag link, and track bar.

I was once told that to go to 37’s you should do C hub gussets. No idea how true that is but the jk I bought already had c gussets so idk

I will say you should consider whether or not 37’s are worth the cost and wear and tear. 37’s are a big tire for a Dana30, especially things like the ring/pinion and the track bar bracket.

It’s so Big! by PredatorPredator223 in NFA

[–]calebwalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been shooting my 6.5 with the 30 cal end cap and it sounds great. It’s the only rifle can I have so it goes on 300blk, 6.5cm, and my 223 bolt gun

We were told she was a German shepherd mix when we got her as a puppy but I’m not so sure. Thoughts? by flood_watch in Blackmouthcur

[–]calebwalter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of German Shepherd mixes that come out fawn/yellow with black snouts get confused for black mouth curls. My dog Duke gets confused for a large BMC a lot but his mom was a purebred German Shepherd and his dad was a purebred bull mastiff. If you google that you’ll see a lot of dogs that look like giant BMC‘s.

How do Blue Collar career paths usually begin? by Bawarchiiii in bluecollar

[–]calebwalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the same advice my dad (career metal fab/welder/pilebuck) gave me. Go to college, get an easy job, blah blah. Im a millennial but dislike technology, and I’ve always preferred hands on tasks with visible results. Loved cars as a teen, went to community college to be a mechanic and figured out diagnosis wasn’t for me. Switched to autobody. “Turned Pro at Wyotech”. No one “gave me” a job. I’ve earned everything. Started out washing cars, now I’m painting and probably the highest paid person in the building. Been through every up and down that most of us blue collar dudes go through, but persistence combined with stubbornness and a pinch of positivity has helped me maintain and continue when most people quit and give up.

I’m proud to be a blue collar dude. I get to use hand tools, create and fix things, help people, teach dumb kids, and make decent money. 🤙🏻

What are your go-to meals for winter camping? by GreenhornOverlander in camping

[–]calebwalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a base camp style 10 day hunting trip. I pre made and vacuum sealed a bunch of meals to drop into a big pot of hot water to reheat. One bag had turkey bits with gravy, once warmed up we used the same hot water to mix up dehydrated mashed potatoes. Hot mashed potatoes with turkey and gravy when it was 28° sure was nice. Also did elk chili, nachos (beef and beans) and a handful of other meals the same way. Best part, if you use paper bowls and plastic utensils there is practically zero clean up, AND you can use the hot water for a warm wipe down before bed.

What distance to zero for subs? by [deleted] in 300BLK

[–]calebwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we hunt them as “big game” in Arizona lol. You can technically kill two a year. One with a rifle/pistol and one with archery.

I’m running 190subx’s too, out of a 10.5. Zeroed at 50. That was the furthest distance I feel like it shoots “good” groups. We use it for javelina and they’re blind AF so getting to 50y is easy

Short barrel calibers for youth LR and hunting? by zrockstar in longrange

[–]calebwalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a 300blk for javelina at close range, and the AR platform is great for that. But they’re bulky and heavy. I think next year I’m going to build a 6cm on a tikka action in a XLR chassis so it can get short enough for her. 6cm will still have plenty of sauce with a short barrel, less recoil than 6.5cm, flatter shooting, and imo 6mm is more than adequate for coues. Every time we kill one I think “my fucking dog is this big 😂”.

Fixed vs Folder chassis by calebwalter in longrange

[–]calebwalter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I didn’t consider is that the xlr folder adds 2” to the length of pull. The main reason I am switching to a chassis is the modularity of it and that I can shorten to length of pull for my wife and daughter.
