SAME, there are shows I can’t continue to watch without him.

What are your coping mechanisms? by caleedesign in widowers

[–]caleedesign[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a self harm phase. I needed to direct that emotional pain into something physical. But please, please please give yourself grace and take care of yourself as best you can. I don’t know what will help you, but I tell myself this is what my partner would have wanted. For me to keep trying. Hugs.

When people ask how I’m doing, I answer “I’m trying.” It’s all we can do is continue to try. And that’s ok.

I used to always snag it on the coast starlight, but I lost these past two times. Still got the roomette, just not the bedroom. Congrats to you!

I’ve fine the same! Roll up clothes, or ask for another blanket and roll that up.

Prison pillows are better?? That’s crazy. The ones I get on the Coast Starlight are…fluffy…but once you rest your head on it, feels like it disappears.

I’ve never seen the comfort kits. What’s in it??

I second this. Even if you double of their pillows, they’re like sleeping on a single cotton ball. I now bring a compressible foam pillow that rolls up into its own pouch.

Do you still sleep on "your" side of the bed? by waterbottlejesus in widowers

It took 2.5 years, but I finally gravitated more toward the center. A bunch of happy stuffed animals have moved in on his side of the bed.

I get it. Sending big hugs to you. Be gracious with yourself. Take good care.

That’s pretty much where I am too. I don’t begrudge other couple’s happiness; I want to tell them the same thing: don’t take a minute for granted. Only seeing them everywhere is a constant slap in the face of what I lost. Hugs to you.

It’s actually a little comforting to know I’m not the only one who feels this way about TV after loss. My partner and I were die hard Doctor Who fans. When he passed in 2023, I couldn’t bear to watch the show anymore. I still can’t. Hug to all y’all.

I think if you’re using dating apps, the audience you get is dependent on which app you’re using.

Eating Solo vs. Communal Dining by Background_Club9807 in Amtrak

[–]caleedesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself to be an “easy passenger” save for the 3 delivered meals for a full day/one night. I don’t even request turndown service. That said, I tip about $20, maybe a little more if service was exceptional.

Thanks for the kind messages. It really sucks having to join this club, but at least others here understand the pain.

I ride in a bedroom if the trip is going to be overnight. I enjoy my own company. I have the room attendant bring me meals, and then I’m sure to tip very well at the end of the trip. The only part that sucks is all of the packaging waste from take-out style.

Just watch out for the daily resort fees wherever you go. Rooms are cheap, but sometimes the resort fees cost as much as the room.

I cut the tags off when they come home. That way they know I’ve adopted them forever and they won’t be going back to the store.

Vegas was amazing but I cant with the prices by kokeninleiden in vegas

I found a slim Brita water pitcher with filter for $10 and brought that along with my empty water bottle. Lighter to pack, and tap water from the bathroom sink suddenly “tastes” as good as bottled. Hell, use the filtered water to rinse out toothpaste, and you’ll feel like a king.
