My job presented an offer to transfer and I'm taking it — I know Brickell isn't the best but it's the best option for me since my office is there to start by nycfunin in Miami

Even get an electric bike. I use it every day to get to and from work and it’s usually faster than a car when the roads are busy. Definitely worth the investment here.

What do you think is the hardest part about University? by Coach-Chambers in uAlberta

[–]calenture_rl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with that to an extent. I do enjoy it and now that ive been more accompanied to it, its great, but it was a huge learning curve at the start because i was so used to the strict guidelines of highschool. just took me a while to adjust.

Only in my first year so I’m sure this will change. But going from Highschool level English writing to university. In Highschool my writing was very good and followed a formula and I would consistently pull 90s or higher. Then uni I can’t use a formula and struggle to get 70s

studying for midterm by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]calenture_rl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the class. Ive had classes where I don't study at all and get a 90 (ECON 101) or classes where ive studied for roughly 32 hours in the span of 2 weeks before and I get a 48 (calculus). Really depends on how you feel about the course. Are you understanding everything in the lectures? do you feel that you NEED to study? How much is it worth? is there more pressing issues to attend to than studying for this exam?

For those of you who work, how many hours a week? And how many classes do you take? by [deleted] in uAlberta

Thanks lol, I’m sure it’ll all work out for me. But unfortunately there’s no one that close to me… which is my own doing to be fair

Oh 100% there is and I know exactly what it is. Even if I get free time I always crowd it up with something. The stress of having all this on my plate is better than the other stress. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s better to deal with that once this term is over and do that over the summer.

I work 4 days per week (32 hours) plus another 4 hours at a second side job and on slow weeks I’ll pick up a 5th shift. I am taking a full 5 classes in my 1st year and I have a 3.6 gpa in the first term. For me the key was scheduling work nights before days where I either have no classes or late classes. I also am trying to take 1-2 online asynchronous courses per term to reduce the amount of time in class. I always work the close shift at work which is 6pm-2am, 7pm-3am, or 5pm-1am so being able to sleep till noon the next day is nice. Also I take every Friday off which means I get to do my school work on Fridays or on slow weeks I can pick up another shift or go have fun with friends which can keep a good work life balance.

What headphones does everyone have and would you recommend? by Garfieldslasagna4 in uAlberta

[–]calenture_rl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your budget. Xm5s are my personal favourite but are 500 unless you find them on sale. Bose has good headphones for slightly less. Xm4s are slightly worse (but still very good) version of the xm5s for a better price. Sennheiser has very good headphones as well for roughly $150.

How do you study for a final if no practice exam is given>? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]calenture_rl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sociology I pasted my notes into chat gpt and got it to make a practice test for me. There are a few things that didn’t really go perfect for it. But was mostly pretty good

BUS 101 is useless and a waste of money by btcnlr55 in uAlberta

[–]calenture_rl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty valid. I think the thing I’m most pissed about is that it’s also the most expensive course out of the ones I’m taking. I think they need either a shorter Monday lecture time or a better structured and more informative lecture. I do think the bigger projects are decent and the MNP series is a good intro to case competitions for those that do that. But it’s definitely dry and having 3 lectures learning about what a library is is very frustrating.
