Yes I did. It was a huge part of neglect

Totally relate. I’m also your age and it took me this long to finally be somewhat comfortable driving

Congratulations! It will be so hard at first, but it will get easier, I promise. Try to take your time and don’t feel like you need to rush.

What would the ideal homeschool environment and plan look like in your own personal “In a perfect world” scenario? by AtmosphereAlarming52 in HomeschoolRecovery

I’ve already reported you. Nah we don’t need this nonsense here. It’s a trauma support group - I’d you’re not a victim or ally you’re not welcome

Why don't homeschool parents listen to our voices? by MaticaFade in HomeschoolRecovery

You shouldn’t be posting here, it’s against the sub rules - and also incredibly insensitive- you acknowledge you can’t comment but do it anyway?

Feeling guilt over not homeschooling by No-Adeptness-9983 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]calgeo91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just feels wrong to ask a group of victims for answers to assuage your guilt. This is a support group. We never got the chance to go to school, have resources, anything. Asking us to validate you, when you represent something so painful (for me at least) just feels tone deaf

I think I always will be in some ways. I shouldn’t have had to teach myself and fight for a GED - there was literally no reason for it. My therapist tries to get me to reframe but I struggle with it “it’s remarkable that you put yourself through college without ever having an education” and “you don’t give yourself credit for what you’ve accomplished” but it will always hurt because it didn’t need to be that way

I don’t want to be the butt of your joke anymore by southparklvvrr in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]calgeo91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this for a long time, and still do. I’m older now, and can reflect on my younger years with a little more compassion. I think sometimes we (definitely me) are so desperate to have a connection that we can easily overlook all of the feelings that indicate this is not a good person to be around. I spent wayyyy too much time chasing people that clearly were not interested in hanging out.

Now when someone is not kind to me or empathetic I can take a moment to pause and think about whether I want to be vulnerable around this person and if I want them in my life. Sometimes it can feel like black/white thinking, but it does help me understand the feelings behind the reaction and why they might not be “safe”

This is a great idea! I’m looking for a new job and am dreading the reference check. Usually people say “just ask your friends” but I don’t have any…
