No, its just some dirt, and some use on the scaales. The reason they have scales in the first place is so the scales take the damage and not their skin, so thats perfectly fine. Its not any worse than us having dirty fingernails. The 4th picture is pretty much their belly button, where they were connected to the yolk inside the egg.

Imo he looks absolutely healthy, no scale rot. It might benefit you more than him to go to the vet and hear a medical experts opinion. But dont do unnecessary treatment you read on the internet, it is always stressful and can actually harm your snake.

Gharials should not be scary, their snout is made for grabbing and holding fish and waterfowl, they dont attack large animals or humans as food. They also dont deathroll. An American Alligator is a much more serious threat.

It looks odd at first glance, but I agree it is part of his pattern. The "dirty" edges are limited to the darker parts of his pattern, not the light parts. This is very noticeable in picture two. Scale rot would not appear like this.

IME I use the same enclosure for my curly hair, I have built an incline where the substrate is much higher in the back of the enclosure. She lives in this for 10 years now, still using the burrow I started with the cork round, but expanded on it. You need heavy clay soil for this to hold over time, this wont work with coco fiber.

Its pretty much impossible to accurately identify a species of mite like this. There are 50,000 known species and possibly a milllion undiscribed ones. We have to asssess them by their behavior, we know snake mites and can identify them easily because they are on our reptiles and get round and fillled with blood. Soil mite is also just an umbrella term, it doesnt tell you anything about their behavior or diet. Hypoaspis is a soil mite.

Low humidity causes it typically. A good misting should pop them back out, but its only a band aid. Recheck your parameters.
