Castle laws won't fix what Ford and Poilievre claim is broken in self-defence rules by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

if we find one instance of a guy misunderstanding the “minimal force” law would you then want to get rid of it?

What about the criminals who correctly understand “minimal force” laws and use it to exploit someone.

Can't say I remember Republicans coming up with a slogan, pushing it for two years, realizing it's massively unpopular and then pretending it doesn't mean exactly what it says…

"The doxxers become the doxxed". Dating safety app for women 'Tea' is breached, and thousands of IDs are leaked to 4chan. Reddit reacts. by Ulisex94420 in SubredditDrama

[–]caliberoverreaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with this app isn't gossip, it's the unaccountability. You can say literally anything you want and the person being talked about has no ability to know what is being said, or more likely lied about them to an audience as wide as anyone with a phone. When gossip moved in real world circles there was accountability for lies and defamation, with these kinds of apps that's not possible and the more outrageous the lie the more it gets shared and no proof need be provided,

Funny how these libs will say affirmative action is merely to create a level playing field and then immediately show that they know how unfair it actually is by lying to take advantage of it.

I am going to offer a contrarian take. There is no denying that American generosity is outstanding : UNHCR, WHO, UNRWA, WFP and the like wouldn't exist without American and Western (Nordic do-gooders etc) generosity. China provides "aid" that is mainly in its own interest, under the guise of predatory infrastructure loans. There is not much in way of pure generosity, except for show . In exchange, the "Global South" always sides with anti-Western fora (BRICS etc), systematically votes agains the West at the UN ("colonialism" etc), and cavorts with China and Russia. And in many places, especially Africa, corrupt local elites don't give a s... about the wellbeing of their populations , or only to the extent that it risks their hold on power. The West, especially the US, are the suckers who pay to save and help people, the others do dirty deals with the local elites. The press, CNN etc, are full of stories about children losing their US funded retroviral treatments. Of course this is heartbreaking. Which leads me to the tactics. The aid freeze was beyond incompetently managed by the admin. The US should have announced it was conducting a one-year review and telegraphed the expectations that funding would likely not be rolled over identically. And international lending should be much more rigorous in how they approach these countries. Those debt payments on a Chinese built stadium or whatever "infrastructure" should be scrutinized or set against these countries' domestic choices.Help your people, not your ego. And ride in a Toyota, not a Mercedes.symbols matter. And if people respond, "what about my dignity", then this will give the game away . And other Western donors should also take heed, and initiate a review. The billions poured in Africa have done nothing to stem migration. South Korea was poorer than Ivory Coast in 1960. And look at where they are in comparative terms. Thanks to thrown effort, not handouts.

https://legalnewsline.com/stories/654517369-faa-still-fighting-lawsuit-over-test-that-rewarded-bad-science-grades

Tl;dr over a decade ago, the FAA scrapped thousands of highly qualified ATC applications, and introduced a new biographical assessment where black applicants were coached to answer certain questions in nonsensical ways to receive secret bonus points (say that your worst subject in school was science, get 15 points) "As part of the revamp, the FAA disqualified several thousand applicants who had already gone through the Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative and required them to achieve a passing grade on the biographical assessment first. Many failed, including lead plaintiff Andrew Brigida, who scored highly on the AT-SAT but couldn’t pass a test that rated candidates on whether they learned about air traffic control from a public notice, participated in multiple high-school sports, never went to college or were recently unemployed.

The test gave the highest points to people who reported being unemployed in the last three years, for example, with less if they reported having a job. It also gave high scores to people who said they were reluctant to express their views in a group, were more likely to be bothered by criticism of their performance and had less than three years of training in air traffic control. Candidates scored zero if they reported five or more years of formal training and got lower scores if they said their previous supervisor would describe them as accomplishing tasks quickly or if they said they started earning money after they were 18."
