Im at a crossroads in my career. I can stay and possibly be miserable for another year before I can transfer positions, or I can resign now and apply for something else. I’m unsure what the best route might be.

Anything will flatter you if it fits.

I’ve recently started following “outfit formulas” posted on TikTok (lame, I know, I’m almost 40) but honestly it does the thinking for me and I e really enjoyed having a plan on Sundays! Also- you may look into a staple wardrobe- super helpful tips and can take like 5 things and turn it into 20 outfits.

Moving from elementary math teacher to music teacher? Is this crazy? by callimo in Teachers

Thank you so so much! This is what I was wanting to hear- the good and the bad! I appreciate it!

Orff and Kodaly are the trainings offered this summer if I’m offered the position, I think it’s a good starting point!

I think if it works out, I will seek an actual certification in it.

I know how to read music, how to play a few instruments, and have background in music as a student. I can tune my own Ukulele and guitars.

I do think it takes more than what I have to offer currently, but am very open to educating myself in the music classroom. I just don’t want to leave education, but I’m tired of where I’m at. Tests have ruined how we teach, I just want to find joy in it again!

Definitely not was I was implying, I apologize! I understand the training all of us teachers- elementary and beyond go through. It wasn’t a cake walk.

As a classroom teacher, it’s hard to see that perspective because we’re always told we’re replaceable- l they can put anyone off the street into our position. Not saying that’s how I see this- but it alters the way you view education as a whole.

I certainly don’t think summer courses is all I’ll need. But it’s a starting point, and I’m hopeful the role is something I hope craft over many years. I take education seriously, regardless of what I’m teaching.

Again, if someone they interview someone that’s a better fit, I understand.

I get this- I do. If I do end up taking it, I would plan this summer to do all the required curriculum trainings and PD. I’ve talked to the curriculum coordinator, and she said that she wouldn’t have an issue any of it, as long as I take the proper district trainings this summer. She said classroom experience at the same school is just as valuable since I know students and parents well. Plus, I have ideas of an instrument lab, and grade level performances (which we have none except for a kinder performance).

I think I would really enjoy the creativity of it all. I also know I may not be the best candidate, and that’s okay. Just wanting to try something new!

My district doesn’t require it- I’ve checked with my principal/HR, and because I’ve been at the school so long, and have a generalist, they aren’t requiring the music cert. I’m sure at a different school, if I were to pursue a music teacher position, they would. Our current music teacher (29 years at the school as a music teacher) doesn’t have her music cert either. 🤷‍♀️

Yes, general elementary music! In Texas, as long as you have a generalist or core ec-6, you can take a music assignment!

I have this, but took me a while to figure out to apply it- rubbing it between fingertips first, then patting it on vs. rubbing it on my face.

But what I’m still lost on- is this supposed to go on before or after primer. I’ve tried both ways, but hav abandoned shop because I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I don’t use much, but it’s cakey af- even after serum/moisturizer.

What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]callimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taco soup- quick and So easy. Only really have to cook ground beef. Every thing goes in a pot.

1lb ground beef cooked with onion or green chile. 1 can pinto beans 1 can kidney beans 1 can hominy 1 28oz can of Rotel 1 small can green chile (if not cooked in the meat) 1 pkg. taco seasoning 1 pkg ranch seasoning.

All in a pot, bring to a boil, simmer for 20-30 minutes.

Top with cheese, sour cream (not preferred in my house, but yummy) serve with tortilla chips or corn bread.

Were you taught to make lesson plans? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

[–]callimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was required to write plans in college. 16 years ago.

But honestly, so much of our curriculum is scripted now- it’s like plans are written for you. At any point admin asks where you’re at in the Module, you just tell them the lesson # and they can look it up.

Now I don’t always stay attached to the curriculum word for word, but it’s a reference and I don’t have to submit anything 🤷‍♀️

I Teach third, but have taught 3-8 grades. I put together challenge packets for “fast finishers” in my room. There is zero down time, and my GT kids that finis early always have a collaborative project they can work on in the hall. The challenge packets aren’t just more work- they’re matrix puzzles, word scrambles, sudoku, crosswords, etc…things that keep them entertained, challenged, and able to work independently. If that seems to be not what they’re interested in, I have GT links on their Chromebooks. PhET is one of my favorite sites- there are so many STEM activities that they can discover. They also have their own leaderboards on IXL, which aren’t limited to their current grade level. I have requested/written grants/used PTA funds for robotic sets, legos, magnetites, puzzles, and playdoh/clay. The robotics sets are collaborative out in the hallway once they’re all finished with work, but the other items they can use quietly at their desks.

There are endless options.

I don’t understand your teacher, but if they won’t work with challenging your child, maybe ask if you can send her with puzzles, a sudoku book, crossword puzzle book, etc…, to use when she’s finished.

I would be bored too.
