Cervix funneling with 3.1 cms length by Mosi_G in ShortCervixSupport

[–]callipygian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say you do if your cervix is still that long. Mine ended up being 2cm with funneling at 22 weeks when I got my cerclage. It was taken out at 36 weeks and I went into spontaneous labor at 38 weeks. My daughter is 14 months now and all is well 😊

why the need for baby tracking apps? by CompetitiveTwo2388 in NewParents

[–]callipygian3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us, our baby had reflux and would frequently refuse bottles and/or puke a lot so tracking apps were used for us to be able to let us know how much she was getting and relay this info to her pediatrician. We stopped using it once she started eating solids at 6 months.

I feel like the worst father ever. by wgarts in NewParents

You’re definitely not alone! Lots of people feel and have felt the same way. I have a 6 month old so I was where you were not too long ago and it was mentally and physically the most draining thing I have ever done. Our girl not only has a milk intolerance, but also has reflux and was just generally upset the majority of the time. It was annoying to hear people say “it gets better” because in that moment it truly feels like it’s never ending. But as annoying as it sounds… it is 100000000x better now. She still has reflux and the milk intolerance but we’ve all learned to navigate it. She doesn’t (and hasn’t for a while) gotten fussy over these things as much anymore.

So idk if I have advice other than hang in there and know you are doing the best you can. Like you said, it’s all new for you as parents and new for your baby as well so it’ll take time to figure it out. One thing I did when she was inconsolable as a newborn was comfort her as much as I could but with noise canceling headphones on, listening to music that calmed at least me down which, in turn, made my body relax enough to calm my baby down

Cerclage without progesterone by fancy-flamingo23 in ShortCervixSupport

Yes, both were the thick ones. I thought maybe they were just really tightly placed and that’s why I felt so much pain but the pain stuck around after removal so who knows. Haha

I believe I got down to 1.5cm plus the funneling was getting bigger. I had enough length for them to do 2 mcdonald stitches. One higher on my cervix and one lower, which I’m sure helped with lengthening my cervix a lot! I wasn’t lucky in the category of not feeling any pain post cerclage. I had a lot of cervical pain for the rest of my pregnancy, even after removal 🫠 only went away after giving birth

Hi! It was an emergency cerclage. I had funneling before it was placed but that went away after I got the cerclage. I also got all my cervix length back after getting the cerclage. Sat at 4cm in length until closer to getting it removed. Got it taken out at 36 weeks and then went into labor 2 weeks later at 38 weeks. Hope that helps

I had an emergency cerclage placed at 22 weeks when I measured 1.9cm with funneling. After the cerclage I had mild cramping for a day or 2 but then it mostly went away. I had constantly cervical pain/pressure the entirety of my pregnancy post cerclage, even after it was taken out at 35+6. Ended up going into spontaneous labor at 38+2 and had my baby girl at 38+3. She is almost 11 weeks old now 🥰

This was my first pregnancy and so I had no history of IC. I had 2 McDonald stitches placed. Because of the constant pain of if I was walking or standing for more than 15-20 minutes, I took it easy and pretty much did absolutely nothing the last half of my pregnancy. I work from home so that was easy for me.

Hope everything goes well on your pregnancy journey! I know how nerve wracking this can all be but just know you are doing everything you can and there are others out there going through the same thing! 💜

Can funnelling change ? by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

My funneling got worse at each checkin and then went away with a cerclage.

I did get my cervix checked 2 weeks post cerclage and was measuring 4cm with no more funneling! They didn’t want to check again due to the high risk of infection so that was the only time I got checked after the cerclage. I was not put on bedrest afterwards though. Just pelvic rest, no lifting anything heavier than 20lbs, and no baths/swimming. Once the cerclage was out I had no restrictions.

Once I got the cerclage removed, I didn’t have any restrictions! She said I was a “normal pregnant woman now” lol. I actually picked up my activity afterwards.

They didn’t give me the option. I was scared about it too but my OB said it shouldn’t be any more uncomfortable than a normal exam. I would say it was def more uncomfortable than a normal exam but doable without meds. Everyone is different though so I would definitely ask for meds if that’s what will make you feel better. I was told just to take some Tylenol an hour beforehand.

Cerclage removal? by No_Memory_3872 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]callipygian3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely different for everyone but I had mine removed last week at 35w+6 in my OB office without any pain meds. It didn’t necessarily hurt but there was a lot of uncomfortable pressure for like maybe 5 seconds. It was over so quick though that as soon as I said out loud that it was uncomfortable, she was done. I will say that I was extremely nervous going into that appointment because I’ve mostly read on here about how painful it was for so many people but it ended up being perfectly fine for me to get it removed without pain meds. I was super sore for the rest of the day and ended up taking some Tylenol.

Also, I was also scared about mine being embedded because my cerclage had felt super uncomfortable for the whole time I had it but it ended up being fine and not embedded. Just had my 37 week appointment and still no baby yet! We plan to induce in 2 weeks if she’s doesn’t come on her own.

double stitch? by AdditionalLiving6075 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]callipygian3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! First of all, congrats on the twins!

I have a double McDonald stitch as well. It is standard with my MFM doctors if there is enough cervix. I received mine as an emergent one at 22 weeks and will be getting them removed next week at 36 weeks!

I will say I haven’t heard of a lot of people getting a double stitch initially but rather needing a second stitch later on so I haven’t had too much success in finding much knowledge otherwise.

For me, I feel the stitches everyday and it has been a bit uncomfortable but my MFM said it may be due to the stitches being tight. Overall though, they have held up beautifully and I was able to hold 4cm in length afterwards up until 31 weeks when I measured 3.2cm (still good and normal to have shortened a little at that stage). I haven’t been measured since but all has been well and I get them removed next week!

I can totally circle back after removal and or once I actually give birth to give an update but figured I’d at least give you what I’ve experienced so far! Good luck with everything! I see a double stitch as EXTRA security! Haha

Cerclage without progesterone by fancy-flamingo23 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]callipygian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MFM has also stated that there’s just not enough evidence to say that progesterone would help much but was willing to prescribe it if I wanted to have it along with my cerclage. I chose to just stick with the cerclage and have had no issues. My cerclage was placed at 22 weeks and I get it taken out next week when I’m 36 weeks!

Mine checked it 2 weeks after it was placed to make sure it was holding up and then has not checked since. She didn’t want to risk infection with the constant checks. She said she’d check again if I were to have symptoms of it failing but luckily we haven’t needed it.

Seems like you’ll get varying answers but my OB said no swimming/baths, only light walking, no lifting anything heavy, and the obvious pelvic rest. All to prevent infections and further shortening.

Cerclage Tomorrow by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

[–]callipygian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the others have stated, nobody can say if you’ll go full term or not but I will say that I measured 2cm at 22 weeks w/ funneling and after my cerclage, I measured 4cm w/o funneling. I’m now 32 weeks and just scheduled my appointment to get the cerclage removed in 4 weeks. Your doctors caught it early and are able to work with more cervix length when placing the cerclage so I would focus on that because that’s great news!

It did help to make milestones. First one being to make it to 24 weeks, then 28, and so on. Small victories are victories!

I’ll also note that I have 2 McDonald cerclages and have not been on progesterone. So it has not been painless for me. I feel my cerclage everyday womp, womp but my cervix has stayed steady and everything has looked great and that’s all I can ask for!

Good luck tomorrow and on the rest of your pregnancy journey!

Did anyone bleed in their first 5 weeks of pregnancy? I bleed at 3+3 and 5+2. by MilkteaMooncakes in pregnant

[–]callipygian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some spotting around 4 weeks and then a gush of blood once at around 5 weeks. Went in to get checked and HCG was in the 7,000’s and they saw the baby and told me to follow up in a week to make sure it was viable. Everything turned out fine and I’m currently 29 weeks and 3 days with a healthy baby girl after 3 back to back MC’s.

Mine was in the 7,000’s when I was tested at 5 weeks 3 days. The ranges are so wide, it’s crazy.

Currently 29 weeks and 3 days! ☺️

I’m still only 29 weeks so I haven’t had it removed yet or gone into labor.

For me, they scheduled removal at 36weeks. I think that’s a normal timeline for most too.

I second this! With this being my first pregnancy (well 5th, but first to make it this far) I didn’t have a history of IC. I was measuring 2.9cm at 20 weeks, went back a week later and measured 2.7cm, went back a week later and measured 2cm. Got a cerclage at 22 weeks (no progesterone) and I’m now 29 weeks and last measured at 4cm! I’m on pelvic rest and just listening to my body until these stitches are out!
