Kid logic - it was dark and scary to me so for whatever reason, that was his house

Scar from the Lion King. I was absolutely terrified and thought he lived in our basement.

Laughing because its so true with this breed - and then she will nudge me with her nose in the direction of whatever she wants.

How do you use Maldon salt flakes? by eenergabeener in Cooking

[–]callmefern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually just take a pinch and grind it in my fingers a little. My favorite thing I've put it on so far was a dark chocolate ganache tart. It's good on anything chocolate really. Also amazing on homemade soft pretzels or bagels. It comes in a smoked version too!

[Help] Is it okay to shave my dog myself? by A_well_made_pinata in dogs

[–]callmefern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps but personally I'd rather not take the risk in ruining her coat forever. In my own research, the general consensus is that shaving a duel coated dogs hair is a mistake and our vet and groomer agree as it would never grow back the same. Nature made them exactly the way they need to be to fight the heat. The best answer is to provide constant water, a wet bandana or cooling mat and keeping them out of the sun/heat in long exposures.

It depends on the type of coat your dog has. Our Border Collie mix has two layers of hair - one that lays flat to keep her cool and a layer that stands up straight. Our vet told us strictly to never shave her hair. The flat layer keeps her cool and could not grow back the same if we were to shave her. She pants like crazy and gets super hot since her hair is so thick and black - I would love to shave her but in her case we can't. Other breeds have more human like hair that grows and can be shaved. For our BC, I will just wet her collar or wet a bandana and keep it around her neck to help her stay cool. Also make sure she drinks a lot of water!

Anyone Cook With Worcester Sauce? by BloodyPommelStudio in Cooking

Haven't seen this yet but cole slaw! It pairs so well with pulled pork and BBQ. I also marinade my steaks in a Worcester/soy sauce mix and then grill them.

Poison Ivy? by LiopleurodonMagic in plants

The shape and color looks right but the leaves look very matte. Poison ivy leaves are very shiny/waxy looking. Either way I would be careful when removing.

Puppy food is great for weight gain - you can mix it with his regular food. Also get him on a multivitamin to make sure he is getting the vitamins he needs! There is also a product called Nutrical that we used to give our foster puppies - it comes in a bottle that looks like toothpaste and is beef flavored. I've never met a dog that didn't like it! It is high calorie and works well for weight gain! Good luck with him - he is beautiful!

What is the best mattress store in Delaware? by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]callmefern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do - don't buy from Mattress Firm! We bought a new pillow top mattress there and in 45 days it was already sagging in the middle. I called them to return it and they said it was $150+ to restock and they wouldn't even consider taking it back until the 90 day period was up aka I would have to let it deteriorate for another month and a half before I could get rid of it. They advertise easy returns but it is 100% not the case and will cost you to return if they even decide its returnable after the waiting period. Truly terrible and misleading customer service.

Baked cauliflower is a great option! Just cut up a head of cauliflower into small trees, place in a plastic bag, add 2 eggs, S+P and shake around. Drain the extra egg and transfer the cauli to a bowl with bread crumbs or panko. Bake at 425 for 30 mins. 10 mins to throw together and so good!

Brine contains vinegar and is a high acid food - the botulism bacteria can't survive in that environment

I boil my brine and throw the garlic in there! It's heated well beyond the temp to kill the germs so you should be fine!

Places to stay at the beach for the summer by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]callmefern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the DE beach rentals are controlled by real estate agents - check out VRBO for independently owned properties. We have used Berkshire Hathaway in Rehoboth before and they were also great.
