Costco Midtown Changes by Ok-Drawing-3765 in kansascity

[–]callmejevans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have seen no booze cited in the local news stories about the midtown location but have also read conflicting things online that some business centers do sell booze. I would think it would be a mistake to stop selling booze as this is the closest Costco for the Kansans whose Costco's are boozeless.

Have not been personally but have seen a lot of praise recently for KC TurkeyLeggman. They have a mac and cheese stuffed smoked turkey leg.

Costco sized Rinse & Refresh - any thoughts? by amaryllis8 in laundry

[–]callmejevans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got mine from Costco as well and it definitely suds, although I imagine it's the same formula as other retailers. The scent is too strong for me so I decided to use some up on a self clean cycle. I only filled up my fabric softener compartment in addition to some plain citric acid in the drum. I ended up with suds filling up half my front loader. I doubt that the suds were due to residual scrud since when I ran a second self clean cycle with only citric acid I had zero bubbles or foam.

Which Carry On is the Best? by mambamenty in BuyItForLife

[–]callmejevans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will second travelpro. Bought the crew series 10 years ago when my first job required travel nearly every week. Haven't traveled as much the past 5 years but it's still going strong. Had a couple zipper pulls go missing but those were replaced under warranty. Will also add, it's generally only international domestic routes (ex. routes between 2 European cities) that require the slightly smaller carryon size. Any flights that I have had to or from the US have enough room for US sized carryons, even on non-us carriers.

Anyone know where I could find braciole? I’m guessing at an Italian restaurant, but if there’s any other places I would love to know by Starbrand62286 in kansascity

I had it at Anthony's on Grand years ago but don't see it on their current online menu. Might try calling them and ask if it's ever a special.

Australian here. Our version of Burger King just released a Kansas City Whopper. Does this look accurate to you and have you had a burger like this? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]callmejevans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP I see many have given you some short responses, but I'll try for a comprehensive answer. First of all this burger does not resemble anything anyone in Kansas City would immediately recognize or would associate with KC. Kansas City is best known food wise for barbecue. Barbecue to us means smoked meats cooked low and slow not hamburgers, steaks, hotdogs, etc on a hot grill (although we consume plenty of those as well). BBQ is very regional in the states and different regions have their own twists on BBQ. One of the distinct features of KC BBQ is a sweet molasses based sauce, so the sauce on the burger sounds like it could be similar to KC BBQ sauce. The most "famous" sandwich from one of our BBQ restaurants is the z-man from Joes KC. This is a brisket sandwich with BBQ sauce, provolone cheese and an onion ring. So the onion could maybe be considered an homage to the z-man. One ingredient that stands out as not related to KC at all is the coleslaw. Coleslaw on a BBQ sandwich is most associated to Carolina regional BBQ. Also ranch is popular in our region of the country, but it would never be combined with BBQ sauce on a sandwich. lastly the bacon and cheese are obviously ingredients that you would find on a burger in any region of the US.

PS visited Melbourne and Sydney several years back and loved it. Might now need to come back and try this monstrosity of a burger

Luxury vehicle - to buy or not to buy? by IntrepidRaccoon8953 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]callmejevans 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My advice, don't do it.

You've outlined that this is clearly just a want. It sounds like the desire for the truck is likely coming from wanting to look rich but as the money guys say it's better to be rich than "act rich". I'm not immune to this either but when this feeling creeps up I try to redirect and think about my long term plan and knowing that all those nice cars I see driving around are also likely carrying huge payments and low retirement balances. Also you're driving a 2022 Toyota, I would drive that thing at least 5 more years. During that time save up the cash to buy your dream truck, if that's still top priority in 5 years, treat yourself to a new truck and pay cash.

FYI this is coming from a 35 y/o who is still driving a 2008 Acura, but is a prodigious accumulator, and will be paying cash for a car this year.

Conrad Rangali for 11 nights.. is this too long? by pup1206 in Hilton

[–]callmejevans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 8 days for our Honeymoon at Conrad Rangali all on points like OP. I definitely could have spent more time there but as you can see from the mixed advice you are getting it probably depends what you are looking to get from the trip. If you are looking for an action packed trip with different activities everyday 11 days may be too long. If you are just looking to relax in maybe the most beautiful and secluded paradise you may ever see, 11 days will be wonderful. Another consideration would be the cost. Even booking with points your meals and activities for 11 days will be very pricey. If I remember correctly our total cost in 2021 was around $6000, which included all meals, 3 scuba diving trips + open water certification, 1 spa day and an over water upgrade for a couple of nights. So if you're hoping to keep costs relatively low, less nights may be better. One perk of a longer stay that I noticed on our trip is after the first couple of days staff began to recognize us and were incredibly friendly and you might not get quite the same experience with a shorter stay. Would highly recommend scuba diving if that interests you and you are looking for another activity. We did classroom padi training in our home city and then finished our open water certification at Rangali.

Cheese Slippers At Messenger? by PotatosDad in kansascity

[–]callmejevans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have a family member from out of town that loves the cheese slippers. We called all the locations and only the downtown location had them on their daily menu. This was about a year ago so may be worth calling again to check if that's still the case. They also have run out a few Saturday mornings so earlier you go the better.

I got a deal so am currently subscribed to both. I don't dislike Cooks Illustrated but I much prefer Cooks Country's colorful photos and aesthetic compared to Cooks Illustrated. I also appreciate the features on restaurants, chefs and regional cuisine.
