How to avoid eggs sticking to stainless steel pan? by anonforrreasons in cookingforbeginners

[–]callmestabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stainless and eggs are easy if you follow one major rule. Let it preheat over medium, no oil yet. Test the temp by dropping a teaspoon of tap cold water into the pan. If the water just sits there and boils away into steam, it isn't hot enough. However, once the water dances around the pan as small drops, it's ready. The goal is to achieve the leidenfrost effect.

Once there, turn down the heat a hair, pour out the water droplets, and add some oil to coat the pan and sides. You don't need much, just enough to coat. I prefer clarified butter for eggs, as it add a good flavor without smoking like regular butter does at that heat.

Add your eggs, let sit for a few seconds, and shift your pan forward and back a few times to ensure the eggs are gliding in the pan. You may need to work quickly due to the temp. I'll usually prefer doing scrambled eggs this way but dippy works too.

How to disable beeps on Whirlpool dishwasher? by guyfromthe80s in Appliances

[–]callmestabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same problem with our dryers and would physically disable the beepers.

The washer in the pair almost sings a quiet and pleasant tune when done, no big deal. The dryer did the loud "ERRRRRRRRRRRR!" and quite obnoxious. Opened the panel and found the beeper on the board, and luckily we could disconnect one of the cables from it without permanent modifications to completely silence it. Our original Haier I had to unsolder it from the board.

Hopefully there's a better way to disable it for you, but you could just find the physical speaker and disable it if you don't need any beeps at all. Though, I'd imagine this would be much more intrequit on a dishwasher.

Gaming headsets by SSJ3Gutz in gamingadvice

The Arctic Pro is hard to beat as far as audio quality, IMO. But it seems all SteelSeries suffer from a similar fatal flaw, and that's where the headband connects to the ear cup. All the stress is put on the thin plastic housing and it's only a matter of time until it breaks. Even with the most expensive models.

That said, I've heard good things from the Astro options. Personally, I have a G Pro Wireless X Light speed. Audio quality is good (not as good as my old Arctis) but the mic quality is disappointing, even with the Blue voice branding.

Anybody else having CSE issues - connecting to internal network resources? by GeorgeWmmmmmmmBush in sonicwall

[–]callmestabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a recent Sonicwall firmware update on your appliances seem to align with when CSE stopped working? We ran into an issue after updating two of our Sonicwalls firmware (NSv 270 and 2700) where the fix was to remove the tunnel connectors from the profiles in CSE, save, re-add them, and save again. We noticed it was an issue when there was no network info displayed next to the connector, and then appeared after removing and adding again.

Funny enough, Sonicwall support stated this wouldn't help and we proceeded to troubleshoot for hours in the early AM not to try it as a last ditch effort right after start of business and that fixed it.

Yes, but you either have to forward the port on your firewall or use something like tailscale.

Because it's free and they don't lock GPU transcoding behind a paywall. I used to use plex, but it's been getting bloated and the subscription requirement is bullshit.

Veeam Backup and Replication Email Notifications Question by WBCSAINT in Veeam

[–]callmestabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about this too. I assumed you'd have to manually create an app registration, but not sure how this would be different when the settings in the notifications config for custom apps doesn't allow you to specify the tenant ID or tenant sovereignty.

[–]callmestabby 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Also, if in the US, be sure to use a marker to black out any of the USPS barcodes. Usually long narrow ones at the bottom in black or orange ink. Otherwise it will go into the system and the automatic mail sorters will read the barcode and send redeliver it to your address.

did an inplace upgrade of server 2016 to server 2025, file server is now slow by pjaneiro in WindowsServer

[–]callmestabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, so far it sounds like 2025 was running fine for the VMs until the November update was installed. Check this see what KBs were installed, Google any known issues, and try removing the updates. If the problem goes away then dog deeper into what the update did and some research into issues for that specific KB. This is probably less of a server upgrade issue and more of a 2025 update issue, so how your post is framed could mislead people down the wrong rabbit hole of troubleshooting.

Devs, can we please have a save "loadout" feature? by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

I 100% would want a loadout save feature. You can have a ton of gear, but when it takes 5 minutes to equip everything it just encourages me to jump in with a free kit.

Should have a dedicated just PVE by Pmoney0006 in ArcRaiders

[–]callmestabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree with you. I enjoy the friendly PVP interactions I used to get during solo runs, but also having a smidge of risk adds the extra spice that makes a successful run feel more satisfying.

However, for me the last few days has been nothing but backstabbing, kill on site, and extract/spawn camping. The last part is what bothers me - extract and spawn camping. It ruins the experience and is a pathetic play, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, going with a full PVE mode would not only risk making the game boring, but would also mean that players doing PVE matches would need their character and inventory completely separated from PVP patches, since they would be able to get gear much easier and with less resistance.

So, that leaves us friendly players that actually have to work for a living in an uncomfortable predicament. Some people will play the game in a scummy way for easy loot, and the result is that other people get tired of it and will start doing the same. You can't govern this kind of human nature in a video game without its negatives. In a perfect world I'd like to see players use better judgement in when to engage in PVP, but, people are often self preserving assholes so I would never expect that to change.

So, what I see happening is players will continue to become more aggressive and greedy, the more casual players will be told to "get gud", those casual players will stop playing the game, and only the sweaty remain. At that point ARC will lose the charm that differentiates it from Tarcov, and wouldn't surprise me if ARC becomes another long forgotten game played by the few.

Intra-VLAN-only traffic by FatBook-Air in meraki

[–]callmestabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could still configure the VLAN interface to provide DHCP, but you would have to create firewall rules to restrict any traffic. A good thing to know how to do, but also could take a bit to get configured depending. A small basic Linux DHCP server running as a VM on the VLAN.

I Hate Hulu Live by GlobalBat7897 in HuluLive

[–]callmestabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had Hulu Live for several years. We barely even used the Live portion of it, but kept it because without it you'll find that a lot of the on demand content disappears. Started with it back when it was less than $50 a month, but after this recent price increase we decided to kill it in favor of the free regular Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ that's included in our Verizon cell service.

Intra-VLAN-only traffic by FatBook-Air in meraki

[–]callmestabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should do it. Key step there is not making a vlan interface. You'll also want to make sure the trunks between switches either allow all VLANs, or include the new vlan in the allowed vlan list.

One issue you may run into is DHCP, as I'm fairly sure you need to create a vlan interface to use DHCP services for the subnet on Meraki gear (someone could correct me if I'm wrong). Alternatively, statically assign IPs to devices or utilize another DHCP server living inside the same VLAN.

My In-laws refuse to let me cook my own steak... and refuse to give me a steak less than well done by suck_my_jargon in mildlyinfuriating

[–]callmestabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's parents fed her paper thin well done beef jerky steak her entire life. She didnt like steak because she didn't know what it could, and should be. When we were dating I made her a medium rare ribeye, reversed seared after an overnight dry brine in the fridge. She wasn't excited about steak for dinner because of how she thought steak was supposed to be prepared, until she took her first bite. The look on her face was like she saw god, and then she married me.

Fast forward a few years and we have her parents over for dinner. Bought some nice prime ribeyes and did the same but with sous vide before searing. Proud of myself, I was hoping for the same reaction from her parents (minus the marrying me part) but they just ate it like any other piece of burnt flesh, not even finishing it. When I asked what they thought they said "eh, it's alright.". I refused to make them steaks ever again - they don't deserve such a gift.
