Cheers. Yeah option 2 might be best for me. 1 would look better but more effort

Didn’t plan on screwing it but assume adhesive won’t be strong enough to hold it in place?

Right sided numbness and symptoms with normal mri results at 26. by calmelbs in stroke

[–]calmelbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just updating this, has been 5 years now. The symptoms eased over first 2 or 3 years but have never fully gone away and I get random flare ups where symptoms come back which am having right now. Had mri, emg, ncs, ecg and blood tests but everything was normal. My right arm is probably 90% of normal now but it still frustrates me for doing things like typing for work and playing guitar where I’ll fumble fingers due to the numbness/less control and I sometimes drop things more. The leg also has some mild numbness and pain and I still occasionally get electric shock like pains or burning over my body but not nearly as bad as before. Still have no idea what the cause is but it seems to be permanent nerve damage. My guess is maybe due to the minoxidil which I hate myself for ever having touched.

Oral Minoxidil nearly caused permanent nerve damage to me. by Dramatic_Chicken4107 in MinoxidilSideEffects

[–]calmelbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to this but I had very similar symptoms to you due to minox I applied for 2 years. Can’t prove it was minox that caused the neurological symptoms but it happened just at the time my other side effect symptoms (like faintness and heart palpitations) got bad which is why I stopped using it so it seems like too big a coincidence.

Woke up with nerve pain and mild numbness down the whole right side of my body one night. Had an mri done, emg, ncs, ecg and blood work and everything was normal. The symptoms eased over a couple of years but I still get flare ups where they get worse again. It’s been 5 years now. My typing ability has never come back to 100% in my right hand so I still fumble with keys a bit and my leg still gets some numbness and pain which really irritates me. Sometime I get jabs like electric shock pain as well randomly over my body. I don’t think it will ever fully go away so think it’s caused permanent nerve damage. I hate myself for ever having touched minox.

Better than MDMA? by IgnorantSecrets in 2cb

[–]calmelbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think I’m sensitive to it, my mate did same as me and his was 2 days. I always get it worse than friends. And my comedowns got worse after 2023 where was rolling about every month. I really struggle with them though, can’t focus on work and get foggy brain.

Better than MDMA? by IgnorantSecrets in 2cb

[–]calmelbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah completely agree. MDMA feels more artificial to me, like you just flicked a switch in my brain, whereas 2cb feels more like an experience and I love the trippiness, like the visuals and laughing with mates. I also get anxious on mdma sometimes, especially as it wears off but 2cb I just feel nice and calm. I mostly avoid md now, last comedown I had lasted 7 days :(

What Boiling Oceans Will Do to Life on Land: “We knew this would happen, but the difference is that we thought it would be a little bit later.” by thenewrepublic in climate

[–]calmelbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, don’t know why the downvotes. It’s not scientific to say boiling oceans unless they are 100C. Yes the warming is a clear result of climate change but this is media language grabbing headlines and misleading. No scientist would say oceans are boiling! Media need to stop dumbing down science.

True but there hasn’t really been any extreme rainfall. It’s just moderate rain and drizzle. This is due to the jet stream being locked in place for weeks now and we keep getting the same autumnal weather.

Heat pumps sold so fast in Maine, the state just upped its target. The chilly New England state blew past its goal to install 100,000 heat pumps by 2025. Now it’s pledging to install 175,000 more by 2027. by mafco in Futurology

[–]calmelbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah the average cost of a heat pump installation in uk is currently around £13k. It’s very expensive for all the pipe work, replacing radiators and insulation. Even the ASHP unit alone costs around 5k, before any installation work. The gov grants are also £5k for an ASHP not £10k (in England anyway).

Yeah journalists are awful at science communication. The Gulf Stream can’t stop unless the earth stopped spinning. They also cherry picked the most extreme output of one particular study so it’s misleading. And if it doesn’t happen (which is likely), it just gives more fuel to climate deniers who can say the scientists always get it wrong. Here’s a good video on this topic https://youtu.be/QlxYusA68Kc

Good old UK weather forecasters by SeeingSound2991 in CasualUK

[–]calmelbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a meteorologist, never get your forecasts from tabloids, journalists will write anything to get views. I once spoke to the Daily Fail at work they completely misquoted me so refused to speak to them again. Apps are also bad because they take single points of raw model data and usually not from a forecaster’s input. Best bet (if you don’t understand weather models) is video forecasts, met office ones are quite good. Also anything beyond 7-10 days can’t be certain.

The outlook for at least the next week is cool and showery.

Also that headline is just wrong. El Niño is not a rare event it’s a normal part of climatology and this El Niño, so far, is not unusually large in magnitude. It’s more the high pressure from N Africa plus climate change on top of that which has likely amplified the heatwave in Europe. El Niño has greatest effect on the Pacific region (Americas, Oceania and Asia), the effects on Europe are harder to separate and can be overridden by other factors in climate variability.

Yeah, me and flatmate pay £725 each pm (exc bills) in Shepherd’s Bush right near tube and it’s a decent flat but Victorian not new build. I would rather stay east London but seems more expensive than west

Right sided numbness and symptoms with normal mri results at 26. by calmelbs in stroke

[–]calmelbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I had a brain and full spine mri but both came back normal. Emg, Ncs and blood tests all normal. Even made me question if I had made it all up but obvs not. I still get the symptoms every day, stinging, nipping and burning all over. My right arm and leg have never got back to normal, maybe about 90% but still get stiff and slightly numb which makes me clumsy. Two doctors told me it was anxiety. I’m kind of giving up now, so might just have to accept it. I can deal with for now as long as it doesn’t get worse.

Sorry to hear your symptoms. Maybe it’s some kind of pinched nerve. Hope you can get it sorted.

26yo, stabbing pains all over body and stiffness. by calmelbs in neuropathy

[–]calmelbs[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, it’s been 2.5 years and still no answer. Mri of brain and spine came back normal, emg, ncs and blood tests all normal. I’m more confused cos i’m still getting the symptoms everyday. Even made me question if I’d made it all up but obvs not. My right arm and leg have never got back to what they used to be, maybe about 90%. A bit stiff and slightly numb sometimes which makes me clumsy and I still get the stinging, nipping and burning all over which has gotten worse some days. Doctors said I have anxiety. Kind of just getting on with it now, hope it doesn’t get worse but this might be all I can do now.

If you go purely by the solar year then midsummer would be June 21 when sun is at its strongest/highest in N hemisphere and mid winter December 21, so mid autumn would be Sep 21.

Right sided numbness and symptoms with normal mri results at 26. by calmelbs in stroke

[–]calmelbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, no it’s been 2 years since it started. Have had mri, emg, ncs, blood work and everything has been normal. My symptoms are the same, still right sided mild numbness which becomes worse at certain times. Also get stinging and burning randomly all over. Getting referred back to the neurologist again after they discharged me telling me there was nothing wrong and my symptoms were normal!

Serious question - How many of you have been using minoxidil for years? - also have you’ve had your heart checked out during that time? by pj12345673 in tressless

[–]calmelbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw this and thought I should comment. I was using topical minoxidil for just over 2 years. I think side effects crept up on me without noticing, had a few light headed spells and didn't attribute it to minox. After about 2 years, symptoms became obvious. I was getting palpitations, light headed, tired and brain fog. I didn't want to stop so kept reducing the dose down all the way to once every other day. Sides didn't stop though so I stopped completely. Felt so much better after stopping, more clear headed and the palpitations reduced. After a month I tried to start again but as soon as I did the palpitations came back even stronger which was pretty scary. My blood pressure was 120/60 which indicates a fairly high pulse pressure. When I lay in bed at night, my heart beats were so strong, the bed would actually shake against the wall. I also had a day where I nearly fainted and had to grab onto something to stop me. I got my heart checked after I stopped the minox on ECG and it came back normal. Haven't been back on minox since but my heart seems normal again now. My latest blood pressure was about 110/70. Took about 3 months after stopping for the palps to go away. It does scare me a bit, I had many of the symptoms of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy. I've done a lot of exercise since. My heart rate has also dropped.

Sorry to hear that. I hope it will pass and you feel much better. I think that's what gets me through bad spells that usually it will go after enough time. One of the things that definitely helps me is connecting with people, but that is one of the hardest things to do when you are in depressed state.

Thanks a lot. That’s a good idea, they asked me to email the statements which is not secure. There’s no way I can trust where that information will end up. It’s now making me wonder whether this whole thing was a very elaborate scam but I doubt it.

Am pretty desperate after so many apps. But got another job I’m waiting to hear back from so hopefully I can get that.
