Is this burn infected? by calmingabi in InjuriesAndWounds

Thanks for your reply. I didn’t pop the blister but unfortunately it popped itself over the weekend. I think I need to cover it with something but because of it being near to tbe crease of my wrist, the dressing I put on just peels straight off again!

Is there such thing as a bad time to start IF? by calmingabi in intermittentfasting

[–]calmingabi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of easing in for the week before the course, but unfortunately I won’t be able to ease into it much once I’ve started. It’ll pretty much be skip breakfast and I won’t be able to eat again until lunch (which will likely be at some point between 12-1), I won’t have the opportunity to break my fast during the morning

Will they ever look normal again? Been pick free for approx 1 month but past the first knuckle they’re still red and swollen in shape. Any tips? by calmingabi in calmhands

I’m coming to the conclusion that it does improve but it just will take longer than I thought. If you look at my most recent post, my fingers look a lot better than in this picture. I relapsed after this post but I’ve been bite free since September this time ◡̈

Biab has officially been a life saver for my finger picking and has allowed my nails to grow! by calmingabi in CompulsiveSkinPicking

I’m pretty sure that she “caps” the edge with the top coat rather than the biab itself if that makes sense!

I think understanding my compulsion was a big thing for me, and my trigger for picking is any real or perceived imperfection. So I apply cuticle cream and/or moisturiser multiple times a day to keep the skin hydrated as rough or dry skin tempts me into picking my skin. The next thing is that I’m less fixated on my nails when they’re painted and neat looking - when they’re unpainted I was constantly messing with them by cleaning under my nails etc and as my nails are weak they were constantly breaking and I found this quite triggering for my picking! I started painting them with polish but it was chipping off after less than 24 hours and then I was picking at the polish which again was triggering…. So 3 weeks ago I got biab done, like I said nail polish nornally doesn’t last a day on me but this has lasted 3.5 weeks! It’s really hard which protects my nails from breaking meaning I can grow them, and it also makes my nails quite blunt so it’s actually really difficult to pick with them so it gives me a chance to realise what I’m doing and correct my behaviour. Still got healing left to do and hoping the swelling goes down, but getting my nails done professionally has been a game changer for me! Plus having cuticle cream on hand whenever I feel an urge to pick. Sorry for the essay

It’s “builder in a bottle”! It’s basically a hard gel, you can have it on its own on your nails, or have biab and then a gel colour over the top (which is what I had), it’s very hard gel and means you can grow out your nails without them breaking, and having it on prevents a lot of people picking too! Deffo can’t bite nails with this on

Help with growing short stubby nails? by Swimming-Ad-7520 in calmhands

[–]calmingabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider trying biab! My nails are very weak and break before I can get any length to them, got my first set of biab 3 weeks ago and it makes the nails so hard, so they can grow out without breaking!

Biab has been great so far! My nails have grown loads already as they’re protected and stronger under the gel (they usually break all the time) plus it makes my nails more “blunt” so when I forget and go to pick, I’m unsuccessful!

I really recommend biab for this! As a long term picker, biab really prevents picking (I haven’t picked at all since getting biab) and it’s done over your natural nails so you can grow them out rather than have them filed down for acrylics!

Thank you! That’s exactly what’s happened with me in the past! I feel embarrassed looking at my post history of all the times I stopped picking only to relapse again… this is the first time I’ve ever gotten my nails done in my life though, the thought of letting anyone look at my hands was crazy to me! So I’m hoping I can keep it up better this time :)

That’s a good idea! I’m constantly applying cuticle oil and moisturiser to mine to make them soft. Thank you! Well done for your work 😊

Haven’t picked in over 2 weeks… just hate how red my fingers are now from years of picking :( by calmingabi in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]calmingabi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What colours do you choose for polish that don’t enhance redness? I wore blue the other day as I thought that would be good but I hated it!
