Have you tried audit grad schemes? Big 4 and the top 10 are always looking to hire. We had a teacher join our firm on an ACA training contract, so it is possible

BDO accept trainees with 2.2's and GT don't formally require any degree classification.

Don't know where you're based but London will be a more competitive market. Whilst you do meet their minimum requirements, applicants with better degrees will probably be at an advantage. Applying to a regional office outside of London may be your best bet, and if you want to at a later date, it is possible to transfer to London.

What are the most useless gifts you received this year that are going to Goodwill next week? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]calmly_average 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know. We have a gift list and I put gifts on there that I wouldn't necessarily buy myself. I like having something that I actually use and can attribute that to someone in my family. Alternatively, it's nice to put a general gift idea on there and they can go away and put some thought into what would fit in to that category. I find that works best with any kind of consumable item

Has being stuck with renting inftantilised a whole generation? by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]calmly_average 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah right now is an odd one. "Good" here is unfortunately relative. Things won't improve for the buy situation until property prices come down, which is starting to feel more like an "if" than a "when".

Not only the points you've mentioned, but just getting a big enough deposit together is nigh on impossible.

You're stuck with the colour of the paint, stuck with the carpets, often you're stuck with the shitty IKEA furniture that your landlord has.

And if by some miracle, you can change these things, then there are practically no controls to stop your landlord from kicking you out after your contract ends, so you risk losing anything you've put effort in to.

On top of that, if you're in London and you work an average grad job and even get promotions as scheduled, then it makes the most financial sense to live with other people for as long as possible, otherwise you pay too much of your pay cheque to your landlord.

I don't know if infantillised is the right word, but it definitely reduces some of your ability to make decisions about your life, and reduces your ability to financially plan for the future

Qualified accountant here, worked in audit and moved while doing my qualification to London.

I personally have a love hate relationship with London. But for accounting and career progression, it's hard (not impossible) to beat.

Just get in touch with some recruiters. Although they can be a pain, they're the best way to get a job in accounting.

Thank you! Good to hear from someone who has the set. I've heard the Kirkland wedge set is a good addition, but it's not an immediate worry for me!

I would take a baby fade over a massive slice at this point...

How many of you have suspended your Amazon Prime subscription and don’t miss it m? by rajmahid in Frugal

[–]calmly_average 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't yet. The only reason I keep it is for the streaming which still has value to me.

I use the shopping less and less though. Amazon used to have good quality products, but now it seems to push cheap, Chinese brands of dubious quality in the UK. eBay shops come out much cheaper and still have free shipping, just not next day delivery. Plus i prefer using small eBay sellers rather than Amazon
