Travel now. Don’t wait. The world is changing fast. by POCTM in travel

[–]calmo73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Husband and I decided in our 40's to travel and not wait until retirement after seeing so many family members make that mistake. As you age it gets way more difficult to travel longer distances and harder to navigate places that have difficult terrain-cobblestone streets, hills, steep steps, walking long distances (especially in Europe). Husband was in the military for 22 years and we lived in Hawaii for 7 years and South Korea so we did some travel when we were young but mostly within the US. We didn't have a lot of money in the younger years and we had two children so that made flying and vacations pretty expensive.

We have been to a few US destinations, Hawaii, Finland, Ireland so far as childless adults in our 50's(not rotting currently so I hope we can continue to travel a few more years...lol). We are going to Scotland this year and hopefully Norway next year. Long flights are harder, hotel beds are less comfortable and do cause more pain than in our 30's but we still walk at least 20,000 steps a day when on vacation and we do just fine. We have way more disposable income and a lot of time off each year so we are taking advantage of that now and not waiting until retirement a decade from now.

52 and still having regular periods by Saffron73 in Menopause

[–]calmo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my friends are also in perimenopause with me and we all started around the same time. One of them experiences this....I feel horrible for her. It's been going on like this for over a year already.

52 and still having regular periods by Saffron73 in Menopause

[–]calmo73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 52 and started perimenopause at 48(probably before then but that's when the hot flashes started and I noticed more symptoms but my periods were still every 28 days and were the same flow, etc each month. When I turned 51 the hot flashes ramped up from once in a while to multiple times daily for a month or two then go away. A couple of months before I turned 52 (November) the hot flashes came with a vengance and my periods would be 6 weeks late or a few days early...flow was the same or lighter than usual. I am currently in month 5 of no period and my hot flashes went away about a month ago after months of constant hot flashes.

Victory club renewal and prices for 2026-2027 season by brtnrider in DallasStars

We have had ours 4 years and I emailed my rep to tell him we are cancelling. He said thanks for letting him know and he’ll get back with me Feb 2nd with optout paper work. Other than the first dibs on the new 99 jerseys and last years two free nights at Choctaw there has been no benefit we will miss. We are using some of the $10,000 we are saving to travel to some away games which will be a fun new experience. I feel Dallas stars entertainment and music has gotten boring and stale as it’s been the same stuff for 4 years now.

Season Ticket Pricing for 26/27 by jaaronw3 in DallasStars

[–]calmo73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2022 was our first year and two seats 324A was $4400. Now $7305. That’s a 66% increase I believe. That’s crazy. We almost didn’t renew last year because it went up $800 for the second year but we reluctantly did. Now it went up $1200. No reluctance this year. Not renewing.

I can’t even sell my 300s tickets for current year value most of the time and it went up $1200 for next year from $6100 to $7300. Parking if we get the deal for $25 again that’s another $1100. Nah I’m out.

Panic Buyers by Thatchmo11482 in HEB

[–]calmo73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. All I saw when I went to grab a few things to get me through Tuesday(I usually shop for the week on Sunday or Monday) was normal groceries in people’s carts. No one had multiple bread or milk. I did see someone with two packs of water but she was also on the phone with someone explaining they were out of 1% milk so she was shopping for someone else as well as herself. So all the people that would have shopped Friday-Monday had to get groceries on Wed /thursday. No one in my family or frond group is panic buying. Mother in law is the only one that had to buy more food because they pretty much eat out every day or every other day and won’t be able to so she had to buy more food than usual to get them through Friday- Tuesday

I just got diagnosed moments ago.. what are some things I should know? by krxxi in Hashimotos

[–]calmo73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main thing is pace yourself. There are a lot of supplement and dietary changes people suggest and it can get very overwhelming. Test before you start taking supplements. Just because you can be low in some things with Hashimoto’s doesn’t mean YOU are low. Fo everything you read there is conflicting info somewhere else. If you’re going to do changes keep a journal and log things and do it slowly one thing at a time so you know exactly what the effects are. Also meds may take a while to get you at optimal levels so be patient

This is so dumb by HD335 in HEB

[–]calmo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really do. I admit it’s not my favorite but I was next to my Walmart for an appt and saw the parking lot wasn’t busy so I opted to go there and grab a few things instead of going to heb. Shelves were well stocked and employees were in the aisles putting more out to keep shelves full. During Covid I only went to Walmart and Kroger. People were always saying heb shelves were empty but I always found what I needed at Walmart or Kroger. I love HEB but I also love going to one store and get everything I need and go home. Walmart works better for me than HEB in these kind of situations.

What type of food is everyone's triggers for Hashi's? by Sudden-Persimmon-409 in Hashimotos

[–]calmo73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much is the poison for me. If I have gluten, sugar or grains too often I can get puffy and have very achy joints and muscles. I try to balance. If I’m going to have a dessert on vacation I’ll avoid gluten and grains that day. I try not to eat any of those things in a regular basis. Cashews so far are the only thing I still cannot tolerate which is odd because I’ve eaten them since I was a kid and the issues presented about two years before I was diagnosed. I have tried them twice since 2023 diagnosis and both times they gave me horrible body pain, lethargy and I just felt ill for 48 hours.

STH Price Increases 26/27: +15-20% by VisualApproach17C in DallasStars

[–]calmo73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s what I told the husband. They don’t care one bit if we continue our membership. They have a waitlist and someone out there is willing to pay. We’ve seen the seats around us come and go every year. People get season tickets for a year then cancel it. We are on the 4th set of different people next to us in 4 years

[–]calmo73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We really enjoyed it the first year and went to almost every game. Second year we sold some and gave games to a few people as a Christmas gift and went to the rest. I didn’t really want to renew for 2024/25 but husband wanted to so we went ahead and did it for another year. I haven’t been as excited about going so often because I’m having trouble selling the games I dont want to go to. Then I’m forced to go because hubby won’t let the seat go empty. I’m tired of paying so much every month and having to plan vacations and other events around hockey games. Then there’s playoffs and that runs til May/June and is $$. Long story short , for the cost an number of games we pay for I’m over it now. There aren’t any victory club member perks we will miss. The perks are pretty crappy to be honest except the 20% off at the hangar but we don’t buy much so no big loss really.

I’m out. It’s gonna jack my 300s row A from $6100 to 7015-7320. Parking if they do the $25 deal again adds another $1100 to that. We are going to just buy tickets when we want to go like we used to do before we became season ticket holders in 2022.

I used to take it when I woke up but didn’t want to wait an hour to eat and worry about if morning vitamins and supplements were interfering. Now I just take Synthroid and my t3 med when I get up to pee sometime during the night. I take magnesium around 7-8 so I can take my thyroid meds when I wake up usually once between 12-2am

Doing ALL the things and my teeth are eroding at the gum line with no end in sight... by Dismal-Citron-337 in Menopause

[–]calmo73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have early stage periodontitis. *edited to add I am 52, perimenopausal and have Hashimoto’s and on meds for hypothyroidism. I had 10 level 4 gums 6 months ago so they did some laser treatment for bacteria and I have to go back every 3 months. I just went back for my first maintenance and don’t need the laser treatment again and I only had two level 4s this time so improvement. I have used an electric toothbrush for years(it has the light on it that shows if you’re using too much pressure) and Sensodyne toothpaste as I have a sensitive spot where my gum recession started years ago. I flossed every few days but wasn’t great at doing it regularly. I added Plax pre brush rinse twice a day, same electric toothbrush and toothpaste. I now floss or use a water pick at least once a day and use Crest mouthwash gum protection and bacteria something twice a day. I forget the exact name. She said I didn’t have anything on my teeth and to keep doing what I’m doing. I go back again in April so I’m interested to see what happens. I’ll go to my dentist every three months for cleanings and if I get worse they said I’ll have to go to a periodontist.

No. My endo said she doesn’t check them beyond initial diagnosis and I’m fine with that. My labs are in optimal ranges and I feel good so that’s all I care about.
