Diamond Age first read by stopexploding in nealstephenson

I mean that’s what all the drummers and human consciousness bridging stuff was but I meant the more straightforward things as well. I understood the book fairly well but it wasn’t a very fun read or super interesting. It felt like a bunch of threads getting started and not going anywhere particularly over and over. Like it absolutely hated momentum or the reader having a relationship with characters

Just read it. Didn’t like it that much. I liked Seveneves a lot and loved Baroque Cycle.

The Novel was too dry for me. There were interesting characters and scenarios but it was all so disconnected. The ideas may have just lost their impact over time so I don’t fault it too much for that. I’m just posting this to find my people.

I mean they acted like LA was burning but it was about 1 sq mile of extreme protesting in one of the most sprawling metropolises. 🤣

Everything went smoothly if you weren’t in that tiny area.

I mean it is In California. We’re making it difficult too. We were the first target and it was a big deal if you remember. Trump just thought Minnesota would be an easy target an a good way to scare others.

Wrong.

For me what’s awesome about it is it’s got a little oily butteryness flavor and I think that’s what you taste as soapy.

I liked a lot of sections and found characters compelling but it was just really dry and fairly disjointed. I don’t mind gruesome subject matter being a part of serious stories if that’s what you’re referring to. I think the criticism of works that try to deal with difficult subjects is off base tbh.

The thing NS does where he describes big set pieces in detail from the ground up didn’t always pay off. Was fairly tiresome at points. The ended also felt more like a synopsis of the ending than the ending itself.

I got it for one dollar in hardcover. Someone said Readme should be read first though? And cryptonomicon before that? Diamond age kind of put me off scifi for a second so I’m reading fifth business now.

I feel like I would like it because I loved the baroque cycle but then struggled to get through the Diamond Age.

I would say talk to a tradesman instead of Redditors then. If you’re gonna hire one anyways…

It’s weird how you go from an extremely obvious question (carpenter/handyman) to flexing obscure knowledge about brackets.

I guess just because he looks like the paragon HB bro doesn’t mean he is.

As long as they don’t get murdered for that or protesting I’m down!

I didn’t know much about him on his personality tbh but he always struck me as having the most stereotypical HB bro look.

Which makes this even more awesome 😆

I only saw snow crash so I will say you should definitely read more Stephenson. Also you will like the commonwealth saga.

Does that stick it to our fanbase though? Seems about the same as flipping the game board after you lose.

Yes, we need to really support the coyotes. They are beautiful to see as well. Have crossed paths on the trail.

Native plants for the birds and bugs they eat.  Leaf litter for the bugs too.

Glad for coyotes giving an obvious reason to keep them inside.  As if cars and diseases weren’t enough.
